War of the Worlds

Saw this yesterday with the 7 year old....

Very good, but very grim and very very Scary!

Cam's usually not phased by anything too scary... he loved Dr Who ( which freaked his big brother out to begin with)
but this was a 'bit' much. I felt scared!!!!

It does have a 'happy ending' which helps, but if you have little ones think twice before seeing this, personally I feel this should be a 15 at least.

There is little action violence, but it's the clever protrayal of threat and menace  that weighs heavily throughout the film.

Having said all that, the little so and so wants to see it again and thought it was brilliant!

I want to see it again aswell!

One of the radio reviewers said he took his twelve-year-old and regretted it.  Sounds like a good film though.

Acutally  this time no...

It's more of a story of the individuals, and their struggle,  which is why i think it's so scary.

IIRC the ending is as the orignial film.

Thermidorthelobster, #

TBH if i'd have seen it first, I wouldn't have let the little one.  However, he really enjoyed it, I asked him afterwards if it had been 'too' scary and he replied with, 'a bit, but that was because it was a really good film..... it's only plastic and not really real Mum'

He's looking forward to seeing it again tommorow when we take HWMBO and his brother, he reckons he's big brother will 'scream like a girl'

Depends on the kids I guess, if they are into scary stuff they will love it, if they are sensitive, they'll hate it.

Tis a  good film, well worth seeing

Well I won't go see it on principle, the aliens landed in Southern England,
Not Bl**dy New Jersey, once again the good old U.S of A makes a complete hash of it!!!
Rant Over

only thing wrong i thought the film ended a bit too quick, a good film for the 1.5 hours or so then withing about 5 mins it had ended, brilliant effects and a good film but i suppose thats how it ended origionaly ( never seen it before )

I just wonder why they couldn't have tried to remain true to the story,
instead of "Americanising" it, I suppose it's just takings at the Box Office that matters, by the way they were highlighting "Jeff Waynes War of the worlds" on Radio 2, I'd forgot how good it was after getting heartily sick of hearing it cos it got stuck in the cars tape player!!!

On the other hand, when I saw Harry Potter (the first one) I thought the end bit with Voldemort would have frightened the daylights out of me when I was a kid, but the kids in the audience seemed totally non-plussed.

I think things have changed...

Some of the action in the story was based in the next village to me - Shepperton, in one case HG Wells is describing an area adjacent to a  pub where I spent a good bit of my youth  :D

Then you'll miss a very good film!

HWMBO saw it and reckoned it was very close to the original story - the book.

Yeah ok it's based in USA rather than UK, but I for one was glad of that, the effects etc very good, and It was easier to watch the yanks getting the XXXX beaten out of them rather than the Brits!

Eldest reckoned he wasn't scared, though I think he was determined not to 'scream like a girl' and prove li' bro' right

Went to see this earlier in the week thought it was terrible, thought some of the sets were on a stage at the playhouse! There were a lot of people walking out of it!

Anyway just my thoughts
