Turbo diesel

So just how bad is the turbo diesel engine? It has a rotten reputation but is it fully justified?

Do they have the cooling problems they are reputed to have?

What sort of sule consumption do they have?

They certainly can be cheap.

I need a machine that will do trials and green lanes (having sold teh V8 bob tail)

TIA

Mike

Tim - thanks, very helpful but not exactly clear cut!

There are two in a local auction tomorrow and as I recall they go for about a grand as teh dealers don't want them.

They are also the first two lots more ot less so I think I may toddle along.

Things and thoughts have moved on a bit. I think as others say, I'd only get a TD with a view to fitting a 200TDI at some point so it would have to be solid in chassis etc. and then I'd locate a TDI engine which I think I can do within budget.

I saw a 90 with an Isuzu engine it it last week and rejected it - of course I now regret that! The reason I rejected it was mainly no fan on radiator - how can any engine not need a fan when in traffic? Easy to fit an electric but how do I know it hasn't boiled already?
