[Bush Tucker Man]

I was heading into Wakefield this morning in order to call at one of the better newsagents arounnd the area & on Doncaster Road (A638) I saw this (pictured below)

Now I think it's a Carlton Commander, as titled, but I may be wrong. Did Dutton make a similar vehicle?
However, weren't they Escort (or Cortina) based? This one was definately a 4x4
Sorry about the lack of a frontal photo, but traffic conditions dictated a 'grab-shot'


As I was on my way out of the city glimpsed a 110CSW in a car-park, so did a loop round the one-way (just for you all. Aren't you lucky? )
It was a  1983 'One-Ten' (as they were called then) County Station Wagon


Emley Moor was another port-of-call, with its ITV transmitter/relay station. Standing about a 1,000feet high (that's 2 Blackpool Towers) it dominates most of the West Yorkshire landscape.
Sadly the camera doesn't allow close-ups of the mast without parrallax error. Yes I know it tapers, but still. not as much as the image would show.


Slightly further afield, I came across this sad specimen. It's harvesting days over.


I certainly hope I'm not boring anyone with my days out, but some may like the photos & locations

I got mine from a caravan accessory shop.
The closest I know of to you (off-hand) is the one on the A64 to the north-west of York

The Emley Moor one is good, but to an outsider, it still doesn't convery the size of the thing.  I've yet to see a photo that does.  You just have to see it.

Truth be told, I love reading and seeing your little jaunts.  Yorkshire is a cracking county.  I've recently acquired a new digicam.  My Nikon Coolpix 950 takes superb photos, but it goes through batteries like a Series III goes through oil.  Hopefully my new, more compact, Pentax will fair better.

Yes, I understand, that's why I gave Blackpool Tower as a comparison.
You can't get to the base of it, as it's surrounded by all the repeater/transmitter/decoding buildings.
But you can get within 200 yards, as there is a Public Viewing Area, it even has its own tourist signs :shock: Honest!! :D

But it's still only half a CN Tower :lol:

I use Ni-MH in a combination of 1300 & 1800mAh. They last a reasonable time, but then again I rarely use the LCD screen for framing the shot
I'm considering trying some of the these 2500mAh derivatives

It is the biggest county in the country.  Technically, North Yorkshire is, but then that gives you some idea of the size of the whole of Yorkshire.

Nah, Ni-Cads lasted about 2 shots.  Best performance I've had is from Duracell M3s, but they are expensive.  I keep considering some Ni-Mhs but haven't found a tuit yet.  The new Pentax has a Li so that should be much better.  It's still on it's first charge and I've taken over a hundred shots with it.

For your information with regard to digitals we've got an Olympus MJU 410 & that's got a rechargeable Lithium with it. It's still on the first charge.
SWMBO takes it on site visits to record architectural/landscape/facilities details as needed, but it's shared.

My regular (carry everywhere) is an Olympus C-350ZOOM
Very robust, it's been dropped innumerable times & I've worn all the silvering off all the edges. Rock solid & great optics
In fact, I reckon, at least 1,400+ of my 'WebShots' images have been taken with that camera!

There's also an Olympus D-575

I see a bit of a pattern emerging here??? :lol:
The C-350ZOOM was the first one we got & is still (as noted above) the workhorse.
All operate on the 'xD' card, so there's always a spare one.
I think at the moment there's
2 x 16MB(?)
1 x 64MB
2 x 128MB

Olympus now produce a 1GB card that's a reasonable cost

Wouldn't mind a digital SLR, but can't justify it to myself (let alone SWMBO)
Still got my old Nikon (35mm) SLR somewhere, but haven't seen it since we moved in :lol: (last May)

Thanks Andy, 'xmobs' & your enjoyment (amongst others) makes it all worthwhile. Invariably the only reason I have to go to some of the locations is to take pictures.

So, with that in mind & in the best traditions of Saturday morning matinees (Flash Gordon/Lone Ranger) at the pictures;

Wynns - just over the road from the station - but no relation to Wynns coaches at Bromptom. Sunters were also Northallerton think they were in Romanby the other side of the station to Wynn's - I'll go and do some research :D
