Another one.

Whilst travelling up the A1 towards Masham yesterday I'd been aware of a green Defender in my mirrors since joining at Garforth.

As we approached the Boston Spa/Otley junction it came around.

Now what is that circular structure on the roof. I guess it's simply a big vent to the Ifor-Williams top, but it does also resemble (in a small-way a weapons ring)

Any suggestions? It was a very tidy example though.

No I don't think the bullet-holes on the off-side panel are real
'Special Vehicles' sticker already noted

Coniston Green Discovery in front as well, The occupants waved as they passed

Note also the LR adjustable towbar.  I thought weapons ring too, but on an I-W top?  Is that a roof rack on the front half, above the cab.  I f so it could be luggage.

BTW what are you doing letting people past you?

When I'm in the Discovery I'll rarely do more than 55-60mph. If I need to get anywhere faster (I'll use the Fabia, or Mondeo)
I did go a bit quicker on Tuesday 12th, Woodhead is such a nice run once you get past Penistone (until Tintwistle & then it gets busy)

It looks like one of the 'infinately' adjustables with a screw thread for incremental alerations to the hitch height.

Yes, I think it was a 'cab-rack' only  (ought to sell it to the 90 owner with the caved in roof   )

'Weapons Ring'. Looking at the photo carefully, I don't think it's a roof-box, so that theory can be discounted.

That weapons ring could be something to do with a redundant nbc filtration system maybe?

A thought just crossed my mind (& yes, it was lonely  )

Having idly glanced out of the window & seen 'Felix' (a local green 90 going past) is it actually the spare tyre in a vinyl cover?? & the roof-rack is disguising the fact??

Silly me

Mindst you, no-one thought of it did they??
