Don't you just love a Bodger ?
« on: July 22, 2005, 09:38:48 »
My front wheel bearing collapsed this week, nothing new there I suppose, apart from when I eventually dismantled it I found someone had packed the old bearing with COPPER GREASE !!!  The grease had melted away leaving a nice think copper paste which ground everything it touched until it was hot enough to melt the bearings !!! NICE....why do people bodge ???? You've got the special tools to take the thing apart but can't be bothered to buy some grease ??? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Apparently it's common practice at some garages to score or nik the inner oil seal on the stub axle to allow the axle ep90 through and keep the bearing lubricated, as it used to be in them olden days. I checked my O/S bearing after I'd finished the above mess and sure enough it's nice and wet with ep90, what to do, what to do.........
