why are lots of bands going to release movies:
eg. The Killers
      Green day
     Tenacious D

It is not the first time that a band has released a film in connection with their music.....

The Who, did Tommy, which was a cracking film.
Pink Floyd, did The Wall, which was such a superb film.
The Beatles, did Yellow Submarine, a psychedelic drug crazed movie.

Guns 'n Roses were in "The Dead Pool" (old Dirty Harry film). Ozzy Osbourne was playing a preacher in "Trick or Treat". Steve Vai was in "Crossroads" (no, not the motel :) )
Brett Michaels, front man for Posion, was in an episode of Martial Law (iirc).

There are probably others, but my memory fails me right now :)
