Which one should I buy?
« on: August 10, 2005, 15:13:13 »
I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I am looking to buy my first Land Rover.  have a choice of a 110 or a Disco.

Both priced the same(ish) (around £2500)

Insurance for the 110 is £892 and the Disco is £1062. (Only priced so high cos I smashed me car up!)

So which should I go for?

I proabably won't do much, if any off roading. I would like to do up the 110 into a double cab, Tomb Raider style motor.

I just can't make up my mind. Please help...........

I have both, and they both have pos and negs.

The 110 is far better off road, and everyone looks at it when you go out. But it isnt best for taking the missus out for a meal ect.

The Disco on the other hand, handles better on the road, but isnt as much fun.

Hope this helps.

By the way, try lots of insurance companies, i have my 110 on Classic ins £200 a year.

I'm guessing th 110 aint a TDI for that money, if it is its probably knackered (or a bllody bargain), Disco is more comfy but you won't get the full on landy experience, drafts, nutters waving at you for no reason, wet feet, huge smile every time you see it on the drive, that sort of thing.  Your choice but be careful with the 110 as it is cheap unless it is old in which case unless its a V8 the engine will be rubbish.

The TD is renowned as a VERY BRITTLE ENGINE, i wouldn't touch it with a long pole, but some folks have had no bother with them and got high nay insane mileages out of them, they are brittle and if abused they break terminally.  Your choice.  No leaks is b******s, all landys leak.  You need the s/h to check its been loved.

That motor's in the new copy of 'LRM'.
I remembe it as it has Rostyles (wheels) on it.

They're rather naughty on a 110, as they're not factory approved for the all-up weight of a 110.

Bearing in mind that the magazines adverts are printed (probably?) a month in advance, it's been around a while.

Besides, you don't really want that colour do you?

Err 12 seats, that's a minibus!  you need the appropriate licence and insurance which could be a problem.

Is the Disco V8, if so go for that and put it on LPG, it's 1/3 the cost of diesel and better for the environment.

The Disco is a 200 2.5Tdi, in Green. I think Land Rover did the Ford thing, you can have it in any colour as long as it's green!!

I've also found one in black, but I think it has that funny blue interior!! But that can be changed in time.

Think I will go for a Disco, SWMBO isn't to keen on a Defender!

I know that feeling

We went for a Disco and very glad we did too :D  Couldnt live with a 110 on a day to day basis. £2500 should get you a half decent 200tdi or a cracking V8.

Think my mind was helped when I put up a picture of both on the PC and let her have a look.  A resounding "Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck" could be heard echoing around the house, inquiring which one was being refered to SWMBO replied "That bloody square blue tank type thing!"

My Julie (NPW) has been in a few defenders and there is no way on gods earth I can persuade her that they are better than Discos     She agrees that they look the part and do the biz off road but living with one every day and towing the caravan on holiday would be hell on earth with 2 kids too :?

Those aren't leaks. They are automatic level sensors. When it stops staining the drive....It needs topping up. Leaks indeed.
