ive just recently bough another motor for bits & in amongst the bits was an auto box,on the rear of the tbox is a sticker/plate that says shuler-voith ferguson formula & has a rrc sized handbrake drum,ive identified the gearbox as the crysler 3 speed but dont no what the tbox is as in the haynes manual it says that it should be connected to a lt230 tbox with 5 bolts,this has 8 bolts holding the gbox to the tbox

please help as its bugging me not knowing what it is & if its rare i can put a price ont it

That's very interesting.  the Maxat ABS system and FF 4WD conversion were being developed together in the late 60's by TRRL for the Ford Zephyr 6 station wagon, to be used by the police as a fast intercept patrol car.  The project was killed off in 1970 by the introduction of.......


....Range Rover :D  an off-the-shelf station wagon capable of 100mph with 4wd and good handling.

Very interesting haven't seen a Schuler Presses transmission for years.  Alvin Smith (multiple AWDC champion) always used to race with them in his Range Rover and RR specials. (Pic of his RR on site above!)

Very sophisticated for its time and by all accounts strong too.  I like the look of the torque split myself.  I had a Sierra 4x4 with a viscous centre and a 66:44 torque split and that handled very nicely on the throttle.

I have a viscous in the racer now, but with std LR 50:50 split.  Would be interesting to try a rearward bias!

Goodness, is the chassis that bad, Mike.  If it is you might be as well buying something like that Disco rolling chassis/shell and taking the drivetrain and engine across.

I am afraid, I haven't a clue whether it has a value, I guess people might shy away from it cause its odd!  I don't really need it, I have enough T/fer boxes lying around here, but if you struggle shifting it I might be interested - don't have much cash to spare though (read: none! :wink: )
