Went to collect my little lad and his buddy from a party at the local leisure village.

so annoyed to see so many able bodied persons parking in the disabled bays as they cannot be a**ed to walk an extra few yards to the other car park.  

if a truly disabled person showed up they would have had no spaces for them,  :(

I use a blue badge to ferry my mum about and some times get to the super market to find all the bays full of lazy bar stewards cars and it makes my bloood boil, one day I will just park on top of one of them.

One day for some stress relief I might go hang around a shopping centre and wait for people using the disabled spots without the right to.  Just stand there and ask them if they have a disabled badge, if they say no, I'll offer to make it so they need one  :twisted:

There is the point Barry that many disabled (not particularily PC but doesn't bother me) people's disability might not be visible.
We don't all walk with a limp :)

You may be (or may not be) amazed at the grief I occasionally get because someone with a tricked up motor really can't be disabled an has to have a stolen badge.

I hope I did not cause offence, I should have been a bit more sensitive.  Just this sort of things really winds me up.

What said though reminded me of "Me, myself and Irene" when a guy skids to a stop in a disabled spot and jogs into the petrol station.  Jim Carey's charecter tears his car apart , empties a bin in it and I think he pee's in it too.

After all this the guys comes back helping a clearly disabled man back to his car  :oops:

I take my own retribution now and again by sticking the disco across the back of two if they park in adjacent bays. Especially if I'll only be a couple of minutes.

My BIL came to see me once asking me to say I was with him cause he'd got ticketed for parking in a disabled space with his Merc. Two guesses what I said.

With regard to my mention of things PC. I don't even know what we're supposed to be called these days. Something challenged no doubt.

If you park in the disabled spots in Asda at Morley a sensor knows you've pulled in and a loudspeaker tells you (and everyone else) that you've parked in a disabled spot and to move if you aren't. :)

took people ages to take off :D

Thats OK but loads of old gimmers don't have disabled badges but still can't walk far.  In fact loads of disabled folks don't have em either but still use the spaces.

Sorry to butt in guys.
How about someone who cannot get a blue badge although all the so called medical criteria is met.
We are talking about arthritis of the lower spine and right hip, and chronic asthma.
The reason for refusal never given  x5.
We suspect that it may be because the person concerned still works.
Although I have to say the firm concerned really went out of their way to accomodate the disabilities.
Just to throw a real spanner in the works, how about someone who is registered disabled but does not have a blue badge but has a disabled tax disk.
So should it be that you can only park in these spaces if you have a blue badge?? :?:

It all depends on your local council.
In Nottinghamshire you must have a DLA tax exemtion certificate to get a blue badge.
It is possible but very rare for someone to get a Notts badge on the say so of a doctor.

A tax exempt tax disk (for disaabilities reasons (of the person) as opposed to disavilities of the vehicle (pre 1973 :) ) should be an indicator that the vehicle is entitled to the badges. They use this on the dartford tunnel/bridge to check the badge isn't hookey.

I saw an article the other morning that badges change hands at over a £1000.


With regard to non eligibility. Refusals are often because the disability isn't long term. Although the ones mentioned sound long term.

feel free to butt in by all means, especially since you are correct in that it's nigh on impossible to be properly registered as disabled, my grand parents suffer from the same problem.

however what I think this is is more a general complaint about these spots being used by people who have no legitimate reason for doing so, at least assuming "being lazy" isn't a legitimate reason.

my grandmother has quite serious arthritis, and isn't all that well (having had major cancer surgery in her life) I've often had to see her struggle (well, help her struggle) from the other side of the carpark because the guy in the bmw is clearly disabled, despite wearing a matching tennis outfit (an exageration I accept) but it's that sort of person we're complaining about....

It used to be done via qualified doctors.
Now you get a qualified doctor to fill in the forms.
They are then scrutinised by civil servants looking at tick boxes where they often decide the doctor in question is wrong and then don't allow the DLA which gives access to the badges.

It's really complicated especially if you don't understand how the system works.

It's now possible to get badges for someone with mental health problems, that can run 5 miles, than get it for aged person where they deem the problem not to be of live endangering proportions. It all sucks.

Then you get to London and find they don't honour the scheme and you get clamped (If they've got any 16" clamps)

I think in South Wales disabled drivers can get a book of stickers which say "You've got my space, do you want my disability too?" to put on the windscreen of the abusers.

Quite effective I think  :D It would certainly make me feel like crap.

I've heard & seen those as well.

We get a lot abusing the parking at the Hospital, especially at our A&E in the Ambulance only area, they'll leave the cars & go inside.

I remember once we had a Peugeot(?) parked diagonally across 2 bays for over 2hours. It was open, but no keys, so it got bumped to one side.

Security begged management to let them clamp it/drag it away, but our weak-willed lot said;
"No, what if we damage it?"

The departments response was that the signs clearly state that; 'the owner has essentially agreed to his/her vehicle being moved/immobilised if they leave it there.
Also, if an Ambulance clips it, they've got no comeback for claiming damages.


Eventually 2 women turned up & found it blocked in by 3 Ambulances (crews 'nowhere to be found' )
They were of the 'travelling fraternity' & had been to a ward at the opposite end of the Hospital  

I think they had to wait another 40minutes for the crews to come back (the messages had got round on the radios & mobiles)
Then a WYMAS* Station Officer & an attending Police Officer both had 'words', but it probably went in & out of the other ear?



What was even worse was, before our Helipad was re-located due to a road re-alignment for the new by-pass,  was the people parking on the grass surrounding it (& even on the drop-kerb allowing Ambulance access!!! :shock:

I remember one even parking on the 'H' & we had the Air-Ambulance on its way!!
Luckily he appeared beforehand & went away with several rude words spoken to him :lol:

Someone got into trouble when he complained, but WYMAS* backed the person up
I believe the Trust got reported to the CAA over this, as the Pilot can, I understand, refuse to land unless he considers it safe.


Sorry for the rant, but if they can't park sensibly at an Hospital, what hope is there for anywhere else???

Last time I underwent PC indoctrination (working in education is a pain in the proverbial at time) we were told not to call them 'disabled' parking spaces as they still worked!. I think we were supposed to call them something like "Parking places with easy access". Disabled toilets = toilets with easy access etc

Personaly I think this would be a step backwords as parking in a space that is 'easy access' dosn't sound as anti-social as parking in a 'disabled persons' space. Not allowed to say "disabled person' either.

My wife is disabled, she had polio as a kid.  We live in a terrace in town, about 2 mins walk from the railway station and 5 mins from the town centre.  Parking is on the road outside the house, so you can guess what happens between 8am and 6pm!!

It took her over a year to get the council to put a disabled space outside the house, but now she has one.  Does it stop the *@+!!!!!! holes from parking???

The other morning I caught a suited and booted git in a big BMW parking in it and walking off towards town.  When I asked him if he could move it he told me to 'F**k off and get a life!!!'

I then 'suggested' to him that if he didn't I'd do it for him, pointing out the ton and a half of lifted jeep parked right behind his new BM.

After a very cilvilised!!!!! :shock: exchange, he agreed and [!Expletive Deleted!] off.

As you can probably tell, this is one of my pet hates.  and they reckon 4X4 owners are a threat to humanity!! :roll:

Mind you I very often think that I have seen it all, only to find out in very quick order that I was wrong AGAIN.
People in Ford Probe sports cars with blue badges parked in disabled bays getting out and running into the shop.
Old age pensioners parking in mother & child parking spaces.
Disabled badges parked on double yellow lines causing blockages for emergency vehicles. (Sometimes they were in a vehicle, the badges that is).
As for hospitals well what can I say, 29 years in the nhs and the parking is worse.
Just for BTM I'm one those green meanies that run in & out !!
Well we try to around here but the girls & boys in our A&E usually know we are coming and get very busy all of a sudden ( joking) :D
Then of course I can't deride the nursing proffesion cos I married one :?

I'd like to dip my oar in here as well if I may (having only just noticed this topic) I agree there is nothing more annoying than someone parking in a disabled space in bmw/merc etc and then carrying golf bags out of boot etc and yes I have on some occasions (when its outside my house) used my vitara (yes, even those can scare people if you do it right) to persuade people.

I think the simple problem is the fact that there is no fool proof system for issuing these things in the first place.

My grandmother who has unfortunately now lost the use of her legs refused point blank to have one when they offeref her one after she had a pacemaker fitted saying there was no reason. She loses the use of her legs and now the bar stewards aren't interested. However, people with dyslexia around our area have been given them. I'm not saying that this is or is not a disability as it causes far too much fuss but what I am saying is where do you draw the line?

If you have a disabled parking space surely that is by definition for everyone with a disability, physical or mental. But then we come to the problem of PC and we would end up if this were the case with half the car park full of spaces for moderate learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties etc.

At the end of the day if you see someone parking in a disabled space and you don't think they should be (or parent and child) then surely there is some justification for saying something to the driver or reporting it as if people can get away with something then they will keeo doing it.
