Dis-location cones! or Jubilee Clips?

Out laneing today and managed to pop the rear offside spring! Has anyone tried jubilee clips to hold them in place? Would they be strong enough?

buy cones if you have the cash. Jubilee clips might work or they might fail spectacularily,cones will improve your travel. :D

mine had got jubilee clips on when i bought it,and they haven't broke yet!
was thinking of getting a set of cones when i've got some money though,they'd do or the short term i guess..

I was using clips for 3 years and never popped a spring once but I now have cones.

If you can afford it use the cones but clips will work

So the consensus is Jubilee clips for the shorttime Stopgap! untill i can get cones!

 How many Jubilee clips should i fit each side?

If you're using Jubilee clips on the top than make sure the spring retainers on the bottom are in good condition and capable of taking the weight of the suspended axle! If not the bottom retaining plate will fold in half and your spring will dislocate from the bottom!!  :wink:

can I just point out that strictly speaking, they're not dislocation cones, they're relocation cones.

Exhaust clamps work just as well and are a little stronger than jubilee clips.

i run 2 jubilee clips all round on the racer & never had any probs with them,its just everything else thats started to give me hell

lets not start that old chestnut again =;

 i have jubilees on mine at the mo but as budgie says you should uprate the retainer bars as well if you do as they can give way if they are the standard ones

Yes Neal! I heard a loud bang and spent the next few miles wondering what it was? When we stopped at the top where the cricket match was! i went looking and found out why! It is sort of half out and half in!  I'll Sort it out tomorrow afternoon! But it was a great day in my books!!! :D

What people are saying is true. I ran with jubilee clips on the 90 but have now had cones fitted.
Bought D44 cones and retainers and would say that you need to do both.
When fitting the cones took off the old retainer clips and looked more like after 8 mints due to rot etc than clips
Jubilee clips are fine but think someone mentioned exhaust brackets - if you cant aford cones go with these

Based on my recent experience, I'd agree that if you fix the spring to the top mount you risk breaking the retaining plate at the axle mount.  If this happens you may find, as I did, that the spring parts company with the car in a very attention-getting way!

I've just fitted a set of cones and heavy-duty retaining plates from Paddocks which I recommend as (apparently) good quality and comparatively cheap.

I bought a pair from Paddocks last week but it will take me a while to get them fitted.  Pleased to hear they are ok though :D
