Diesel Fuel from Timing Belt Plug

Just servicing BB ready for Wales revisited and thought it would be worth removing the wading plugs, as you do.

When I removed the plug from the timing belt cover, I was covered with clean diesel fuel.

The question is, where is it coming from :?:  and what do I have to do :?:

Leaking off the end of the injector pump?
Take the cover off an have a look.

It's debatable if it will have damaged the belt over a short period of time. I get a tiny amount of oil from the plug when I remove it. About once every 6 months :)
You'll need to lock off the pump if you remove it and if you've had to strip down anyway then I'd put another belt on if you're doing it yourself just to be sure. The belt isn't the expensive bit. It's the time and labour.
Someone else might know if diesel around the tensioners might be a problem. Could it reduce the efficiency of any rollers in there if it has degreased anything?

sounds like the front seal on the injection pump might be leaking, diesel fuel on a rubber belt will do it no good at all , diesel has a detrimental effect on rubber unless it is oil resistant etc, it will also act as a lubricant which could cause the belt to slip if there is alot on it
