DIFF LOCK LIGHT.

my diff lock light will not come on when i select diff lock.
ive checked the bulb thats ok. is there a switch of some thing that might need looking at , and if so where is it and is it easy to fix?

will diff lock still be engageing with out the light?
how can i tell?

The switch is on the top of the transfer box, just next to the diff lock actuator. (On the bit of the box where the front output shaft is)

To test whether it is working, park the vehicle, put the handbrake on and jack up a front wheel.  (Don't forget to chock the wheels)  With the diff lock engaged, you shouldn't be able to turn the front wheel.. with it disengaged, it should turn.

thanks for the info , is it best to look from the top or the under side of the car? the switch is near the diff lock lever?

Depends on the vehicle...  It is much easier to get at if you take the driver's floor panel out, but if it hasn't been out in a long time, that can be a bit of a chore.

You won't be able to see it from underneath, but you can get a hand up to it to feel it / check the connections.

It's next to the actuator on the box itself as opposed to the lever.

ill have a go and find it, does it sound like its the swicth?
its on a 90.

ive checked the connectors they seem fine, so it must be the switch.
any one had to change one of these before, is it common.?

Aaron,

Take the two wires off the switch and touch them together,
If your diff lock light comes on then the problem is the switch.
