makes me mad.
« on: September 08, 2005, 12:28:25 »
well where do i start.? as most of you know i had a few problems with my clutch in the disco. i was having problems getting in to reverse without it making that orrible crunching sound...after some advice from you guys i started to replace bits in order of price. i started with the slave cylinder. that seemed to make a little difference but not completly sorted. so on to the master cylinder. that was a nice easy job to be honest. that seem to cure the problem. :D
i was now ready to head away to cornwall in the disco with our caravan on the back. 3 days before we were due to go i noticed the tinyist of clutch slip. hmmmmm. i had the slave cylinder out again to find that there was clutch fluid inside the bell housing.  must have been there a while. long before i bought the truck as the fluid level had hardly dropped since all this started. so i found that the previouse owner had left the drain bung in the bottom of the bellhousing and it had siezed solid. out with the 6mm drill to drain the fluid out. i would say a good 2 pints came out   .
so after a day of driving her about continuosly she seemed loads better again.
the day of our holiday now and i was on my way to pick up our caravan. i had just come on to a roundabout and geared down to second when i heard a big clunk and lost my clutch peddle completly. it just went to the floor.  i had her recoverd to local clutch specialist in the hope i could still take it to cornwall and they could get it done fast. no chance,. i took my mums ........wait for it...............kia karens on holiday instead of my baby.
i knew what had happened. the clutch had become contaminated and shattered. this was confirmed 4 days later. new plate, preasure plate , thrust bearing and pivot arm now installed my dad went to pick it up while i was still away. i paid...........hold your stomachs..........£452 for the job by phone. when he went to pick it up the had put the drivers seat belt clip inside the tunnel. so he had to come back the next day. what a boo boo.
so i get back off holiday to find that it now changed gear nicely again.  i then noticed it didnt have any reverse lights. grrrrrr. so back down to the clutch place again 2 days later when they could fit it in. i was there all of about 5 mins. they did the same checks as me.bulbs and wiring was conected. could i bring it back the following week when they had a ramp free. being patiant i agreed. that was this morning. i took it in and it went up on the ramp.... he told me it was the switch but he wouldnt have long to sort it as his day was full   ....getting angry buy now but still trying to stay calm.he had a quick fiddle and managed to get the reverse lights to work. but they stayed on all the time now. he asked if i could bring it back next week again. now i was not happy and he could tell. he wanted me out the door and fast. he put the switch back to where it was and put the truck out the front. i told him that this was not the srvice i had exspected and he told me how sorry he was. on the way home i discovered that my indicators did not work any more. so i stopped and checked the fuse. they had blown it somehow.?
the next set of traffic lights a copper told me that my reverse lights were on all the time
enought is enough i thought. when i got home it took me all of 2 mins to sort the switch out. i now have reverse lights again when selecting reverse.........how can these people trade. i gave them more than a fair chance to correct their mistake. i had to take matters into my own hands to sort it out or wait atleast another week. sit in 2hrs of traffic and spend more on diesel to let these monkeys damage something else. they are not a small company either.

ooooo it makes me mad i can tell ya.
sorry i needed to get that off my chest.thanks for listning guys n girls
cheers

I know exactly what you mean, being in the trade I see and hear about lots of things like this every week. total incompetence, lazyness and pure stupidity.  like the garage who couldn't wait for a gallon of LHM mineral fluid for a Citroen so used antifreeze!  or the mechanic who having threaded the end of a driveshaft on a Clio proceeded to use a 4lb hammer and an impact gun to get a smaller nut to fit!  what made it worse was it was on his friends wifes car !!!

So I do feel sorry for all your grief but not suprised  :)
