Series bulkhead patching and clutch question

I’ve just been to have a look at a friends SIII landy which he's looking at getting back on the road (Been parked behind his house for over a year and a half)

 One of the main points is the bulkhead and door pillar on the passenger’s side. There is a hole about half an inch in diameter just under the window screen bracket on the passengers side and one of the door pillars is also beyond repair and will need replacing, how easy is it to patch a bulkhead and replace a door pillar?

I know some one who's a welder so the welding bits sorted.

 Also the clutch has packed up. The peddle is sitting about an inch off the floor when you depress the clutch the noise from the thrust bearing stops and you can select a gear but when the clutch is released there is no drive. I'm assuming this is a clutch plate problem anybody else have any thoughts?

At the moment he's considering getting shot of the old girl inlight of these problems, but it seams a shame the amount of work he's allready done.

it sounds like the clutch maybe seized since it's been standing for so long, or maybe the slave cylinder?it might be worth removing the slave cylinder and whilst holding it get an assistant to gently depress the clutch pedal, that way you will know whether the cylider is seized or if the hydraulic system is causing the fault.
Whilst the slave cylinder is out you could try and see if you can move the release bearing manually.If the hydraulic system is o.k but the release bearing doesn't move you may need to remove the gearbox....

silly question, but is the transfer box in gear?
i've been caught out by that more than once  :oops:

as for the bulkhead, if you can get the front wing off, and take the door and screen off, i think its one the easier parts to weld, because you can get all around where you need to weld. and if your welders good, then there really shouldnt be a limit to what can be replaced

Thanks for the info,
 Will be going to change the break master cylinder on it this weak end. I’ll try your suggestions for the clutch. Will also have a proper look at the bulkhead and see how much ill need to cut out.

Have you had a bash at the chassi with a hammer. Rear chassi usualy the worst.

 Yep had a poke around, the rear cross member has gone across the back and the rear chassis rail will not last for ever.
 He's put the old girl up on eBay as she stands, Shame but she was starting to turn in to a bit of a money pit :(

When I bought my landy it took me 2 days on the ramp at work to weld the rear chassis 3 full days to weld the bulkhead up on the drive and 3 Months to get all the rest sorted Brakes , Bearings , lights , engine , ect ect and I am still at it now. Just been in the shed with my old gearbox pulling it to bits to find out what went wrong....Hummm Bits all over...

have you tried adjusting the clutch there is an adjuster on the back of the master cylinder, although if it goes into gear then it can't be adjustment or you may have transfer box or overdrive in nuetral if it has one.
