Please can we have a Emoticons for screaming anger at idiots
« on: September 09, 2005, 17:19:48 »
Today I thought I'd relax, have a lie in then in the afternoon go out and do whatever needed doing.

So I wake up around 9.30 to the sound of a jack hammer outside the house where workmen are filling in some holes in the road.

(i knew it would be happening as the holes had been highlighted with spray paint for about 3 weeks.)

So I closed the window, shut the noise out and rolled over to continue my nap.

Then when I get sorted to go out and do some chores, I go to get in my car where one of the local layabouts says "that treible what someone did to your car"

Thats when I see the damage done. This could only have been done by a open backed lorry of apox 3tonne. So have contacted the concil to get the name of the company do the repairs only to be fobbed off with just put it in writing.

This is not  what I want I want the a**hole who did this to come forward so that I can shove his head up his a**hole.

I want blood.
Cheers.

Ouch!

Make sure you get plenty of pictures of the damage, also the relative position of the road repairs to your drive or parking space. You may need as much ammunition as you can get. I've had to claim from the local Council twice. The first time I failed because I couldn't prove it was their fault. The next time I took pictures of the hole than wrecked two tyres and two wheels before making the claim. Got the money this time.

Your situation might be a bit more difficult because you have to prove that it was one of their trucks that hit your car.

Good luck, Colin.

also.. chances are there wont be much damage to the truck that hit you, but there will be battle scars... ie your paint ,which they probably wont try and get off, so if you get close to who it was, should be pretty obvious to prove it.  good luck though, hope you find the bar stuards.  You'll see your day with them though!

May not do much good, but inform the police of a hit and run.  Give them all the info you can. Ie council work being done by contractors etc.  The vehicle which did the damage should have paint on it from your car.  Oh! and go to the council offices and demand to see the clerk of works or whatever. Don't be phobed off. Just stand there and keep asking. Over and over (politely of course).  If there's a queue all the better. The contractors will most likely be working elsewhere in your neighbourhood.

I can't imagine how you feel right now.

There must be witnesses.  And like somebody else already said, the truck responsible will most likely be still wearing some blue.

Hunt them down, Colin.

Hi Pete I've placed a request in the wanted section for something to hunt them down in.

Words could not  describle what I would have done to the person that did it, if I'd seen it happen. But I'd be in court tomorrow for ABH.
Cheers.

Just a thought. Have they finished repairing the potholes? If not then the offending truck might be back.

Oh their'll be back as I'll be digging the f****** holes up again.

As it happens they had three holes to repair they did one really well but the other two they just threw bitumen in, in what looks like a real hurry.

So when I phone the council monday to complain about the holes in the road they'll have to come back to repair them.
Cheers.

Sadly its unlikely to be the same gang.  I used to deal with stuff like that in my last job.  Its easy for the highways to trace who did it, write to them and they should sort it they used to chase us all the time for leaving messes, and other petty cr*p.  (When old Biddys with nowt better to do rang up to complain).  I don't know why they didn't chase it for you when you rang, ring back and ask to speak to someone important.

Col,

As Stormin suggests, you must inform the police.  Also tell them of the council works in the vicinity at the time, and your suspicions of who the perpetrators were.
Then, when you visit the council offices you can inform them that you have reported one of their workers/contractors for the incident, and provide them with the crime number.  You will then have some leverage with discussions and can demand to know who, and which vehicle, was working in your street that day.  If they refuse to discuss with you take their name and details and inform them that you will be reporting them for obstruction.
Good luck, and I hope you get the scrotes.

I wouldnt hold your breath.

Couple of years ago I had some tosser embed his car into the front right quarter of mine, he got out and legged it leaving his keys in the ignition. I called the police. They came and took my insurance details n such (even though it was parked at the time off the road), moved the offending car 15 ft down the road, locked it up and took the keys with them. The next morning the owner came with a spare set of keys and drove off.

The result: coppers tracked him down despit the fact he had not registered the car to himself (good work) and came back to me and said "sorry, we cant do anything about it as he denies it was him". Something similar happens again he wont be driving it off.

Best bet would be to pursue the council. Harress your counciler into helping you. Oh and find a reliable witness who saw the whole thing
