Advice on installing guide wires frm brush bar to rack
« on: September 12, 2005, 10:05:43 »
New to the site & need expert advice from the veterns.  Well done Pimped Disco II's are few & far between around here.

We have just outfitted our Disco with a Hannibal rack. When we purchased the truck it already had a brush bar attached.

I now need to attach "Guide Wires", (or whatever the proper name).  What is a professional/functional prescription? I am fairly mechanical & handy, and have an idea but have never seen a setup in person. I have searched for photo's but everything I have found has been to far away to see any detail.

I would appreciate any guidance to avoid unforeseen challenges.

You can order the necessary bits from a yacht chandler.  They will cut wires to length, then you can use adjusters to take up the slack.

However, these are frowned upon by many people due to potential safety issues, so if you have them fitted whilst driving on-road, prepare to be criticised.  I'm also not sure they're legal - it's been discussed here before but I don't think there was a conclusion.  However, if you sliced up a pedestrian, I think your insurer, plus the law courts, might take a dim view.

If you come up with a way of detaching them, that may be the best way to avoid problems.  That may be what you were planning to do anyway.

Removeable Guide wires

Yes I hope to make them removeable.  I need to do some more research on 'yacht chandlers'.  Living in the state of Colorado in the US, I am along way from any major boating establishment.

Thanks for the tip.  This is such a great site.
