Insurance quotes - feedback sought
« on: September 19, 2005, 19:31:02 »
I've had a phone call soliciting my business as regards insuring the hybrid. I'm perfectly happy with the performance of the current company but the caller did have a quote for fully comp(no extra vehicle cover) that was cheaper than my current non-complicated 3rd party coverer. On paper my question therefore has an easy answer, however i've had good service from the existing company and found the sales person from the bidder to be a little pushy. Therefore i'd appreciate any feedback you may give regarding Firebond. The figures and policy sound good, but is their service worthwhile?
Thank you all.

Have you gone back to your current company to see if they will match the price, or at least upgrade your cover to FC ?

They het a call in the morning. The loss of other car cover doesn't bother me particularly due to a very nice drive anything policy from work, but after such a long relationship with the existing change, a slight advantage and change for change's sake is not easy.

What you have to work out is the cost of insuring yourself to drive the other cars you drive at the moment. I think this may outweigh any advantage gained by using firebond. I am insured with them and they are ok ...but ive not claimed for anything.
One question though , does you current insurer know you rive other stuff for WORK? When i go on anything work related i get my car covered by work on their policy - otherwise as its work i could be uninsured

I was with firebond for a while.  They were fine with my hybrid till I change the tyres.

The they suddenly would not insure me

Now with Secure Direct.  Fully comp, Simex tyres, roll cage, 2 winches, lifted etc etc valued at £10k.....

......£306 fully comp and a £100 excess.

Expert  8) .  I would have to be very careful about commenting on this one.  Mainly due to me technically working for a competitor to the caller mentioned.

Like has been said though, try your current insurer and see if they can compete, also see if you can get the full policy wording for the other insurer and see if it compares to what you have.

Is your policy due for renewal? If not and you cancel your current policy to change to the new one, you may loose money this way depending on the current insurers policy on cancellations.

Thanks for that Barry. I was planning on running straight onto whoever impresses most when the current policy expires. Out of curiuosity, in your official capacity, whats your stance on vehicle modification?

I hate insurance companies, and can how understand why poeple drive around without insurance.

Their quick enough to take your money, but screw you if you want anything from them.
Cheers.

There are of course two reasons why insurance is currently like it is,

firstly there is the simple fact that we live in a capatilist "free market" society, however this has been going on for some time and therefor majority of companies are large and answerable to their shareholders.   Since they no longer have to undercut the competition provided they aren't notably "worse" than any other then their size will allow them to ride over any lumps and bumps which usually pass for customer satisfaction (or lack thereof)

The second reason insurance is expensive is the number of fraudulent claims, and by this I don't just mean people blatently lying but include the number of ambulance chasers and the increasingly litigous society we live in.

At the end of the day insurance is principly to protect yourself from a £16,000,000 bill should you squash someone as well as to allow you to meet the legal requirements of driving in the UK.

like it or loathe it, you don't have much choice :?

Someone who see's the other side of the story, finally

Unfortunately there are allot of people who make allot of money and a living out of making fraudulent claims and the insurers have to protect themselves against this.

It would be allot cheaper for the insurer to get the car repaired as soon as possible and get it all out of the way to stop having to deal with further compensation and other charges, unfortunately they need time to assess the claims validity, the cover and any possible indemnity issues.

I know I do not want to be stuck without a car for ages if mine gets damaged, it would annoy me.
