Picture this :

Traffic coming to a stop at some traffic lights, complex juxtion 4 lanes of traffic.

Cyclist - in his trendy cycle shorts, trndy cyle top and crash hat. Little rucksack AND NO BRAIN.

Cyclist decides to zig zag through the slowing traffic, almost getting caught up under wheels etc. Gets to the lane he wants, slams on the backbrakes, and slides to an impressive (not) stop - narrowly avoiding hitting a car. Just before he stops he reaches out to lean on a lamp-post.

He misses and falls sideways :-) Cue one very STUPID looking (but granted still alive) FOOL :-) Made my morning. Just wish I'd had the guts to drive over his back wheel when it was layed out in the road infront of me - stopping my forward motion through the green light :(

And why do "Some" cyclists think they can go thru RED traffic lights? Do they think they have amour plated skin, that will not get smashed to pieces when the traffic who have the right of way HIT THEM!!!!!!!

Admittedly I'm a lapsed rider, but I always had 3rd party/liablity insurance as a pre-requisite of club membership(& compulsary for road-racing)

I have nothing against cyclists However i think that the roads these days are just too dangerous for them! I'm D*mned if you would get me riding a bicycle these days on the road! :shock:

While i understand what you are saying , you are wrong. I dont get out on the bike much now a days but up until a couple of years ago put in 100 +miles a week. The guy you spotted was hopefully the exception not the rule.
Its us car drivers that need re-educating. I have personally done this with more than a few cocky jumped up pratts who because of their road tax believe they own the road.(My drz 400 suzuki is only 30 quid a year by the way)
You see the simple truth is this, most car drivers think cyclist are 15 years old or some old duffer. When they "dont see you" they are then very aggressive when you make your displeasure clear. I have had several stop and be extremely abusive- when I wasn't in the wrong(honest) Imagine their surprise when they are faced with an angry 16 stone 6 footer who has done plenty of weight training. The usual outcome is a slightly more educated motorist with brown underwear.
The answer , live and let live . I wouldnt be without my Disco, Motorbikes or mountain bike and I wouldnt impose stupid rules or restrictions on any one else either.
Still I bet it was funny as hell when he feel over though!!

I think there's muppet cyclists, and muppet drivers.  My friend was recently cycling in London, and was driven straight into by a car who had decided to overtake stationary traffic, in the wrong lane - she was on the right side of the road, he wasn't.  She went over his bonnet and through the windscreen, and fortunately wasn't injured.  If that guy's not an a-hole, I don't know what is.

But I've also had times when as a driver I've been grinding my teeth at cyclists taking stupid risks.  One thing I've noticed, though, is when I'm on my bike it's the drivers who are stupid, when I'm in the car it's the cyclists!  Perspective!  A bit like the steamboat vs rowing boat argument in 3 Men in a Boat.

I was nearly killed when I was 16. I was riding by bike home from school when a Jag XJ6 coming towards me turned across my path into a side road. I almost managed to pull round the rear of the car but actually cought the rear bumper and slid under the car that was following him. This car drove over my bike and missed the back of my head by inches, then drove off.

I don't remember any of this. I was unconscious for 22 hours having landed on my head. These were the days before helmets were commonly available.

Fortunately, the next car stopped and became a witness in court. It was his evidence that told me what had happened. The Jag drivers excuse was that he was looking for a parking space and didn't see me  :shock: The car that drove off was never traced.

So, I am more than able to demostrate that car drivers can be just as stupid as anyone else.

Sorry to get all serious. At least the landing on my head explains a lot ..... thought I'd better say it before someone else does  :lol:

The majority of cyclists on Portsmouth seem to be the of the 'suicidal' variety - the sort that only obey the Highway Code when it means that they get priority.

I'll never forget the idiot that rode straight into my rear bumper/towbar as I was reverse-parking on a rainy winters' evening - no lights, 'undertaking' stationary vehicles, not looking where he was going etc.  After getting off my boot (I had a Senator at the time), the cheeky little sh*t tried to blame me!! :twisted:   At least I had my indicator, reverse lights and main lights on, and was almost stationary at the time (hard to see, so going slow).

I had the last laugh, though:
1) The car behind (waiting for me to finish my maneuvre) had blue lights on the roof ...
2) His front wheel was so buckled that he had to walk the thing home! :lol:

EH??? So they can run pedestrians down?? Get real!! Pavements are for people, and not all are able to get out of the way of the prats on wheels who think they own them!! wheeled transport belongs on the road; and the law should be enforced to compel the stupid ones to comply with lights, traffic signals/markings etc!!

We were out greenlaning one day when a cyclist confronted us telling us we shouldn't be driving on this 'footpath'..... his words. So, we politely asked him if he genuinely thought it was a footpath, why was he riding his bike on it? There was a grunt and he rode off :D

I may be wrong but i think it is already illegal to cycle on the pavement! When i was about 14 or so i was happily cycling down the pavement and mr plod stopped me and said " You shouldnt be cycling on the pavement son" and gave me a bit of a telling off and told me to cycle on the road, which i did for about five mins then thought bu**er this im going to get killed and got back on the pavement!

I spent the better part of 6 years riding to Leeds & back (coming home at 18:00 when on days)
My route then, took me over a feeder to the M1
(Stourton roundabout for anyone in Leeds, where the Freightliner depot is)

By careful postioning & attitude I never had any worries.
Mindst you, at the top of the hill, there is a left-turn onto Wood Lane (by Pelican Engineering), I've had to go with cars a few times as they turn across your bows.
I was race-fit then & doing about 25mph.
Quite a few cars & drivers got more than a fair bit of abuse

Of course, you got the usual "Sorry Mate, I Didn't See you!!"
Which got the; "Then You're A  Blind Bar-steward!!!" response :twisted: Especially, as the rush-hour rides saw variations on dressing like this :shock:  :shock:  :shock:

I had one accident in January 1997, riding home after a late shift. It wasn't much fun going through the rear-screen & picking glass out of my face for a few days

In Telford the council spent squillions of our money to widen pavements so there could be cycleways.. they left the posts for roadsigns still in the middle of them

Some Cyclists still ride on the roads tho  it does annoy me but picking bits of the bike's out of my 31" M/Ts is so fiddly :shock:  :lol:
