interior light removal Disco 1
« on: October 02, 2005, 18:01:18 »
Hi guys just fitting the cb today and as its above the drivers head, I am going to splice the wires into the front interior light, but i cannot get it out of the headlining, I have a Disco 1 with sunroofs and its the interior light with the motion sensor unit in front of it, which by the way just pulls out.
Any one got any ideas
Thanks fram

I'm sure the WHOLE console has to come out. The light is attached behind the plastic surround.

O.K. I have done it, you remove the plastic 'window' and there is two screws behind the bulb. Problem is I wired up the cb into the live and earth and it just blows the fuse straight away. Grrr...!! if anyone knows the way round this it would be appreciated.
Thanks Fram

Fuses are there to protect the wiring.

The wiring may not be capable of handling a CB instead of a light and could be a fire hazard if you uprate the fuse to stop it blowing.

i wired mine up to the interior light and it didn't blow the fuse.Only problem was when ever my wife opened her door the cb lost power and when she closed it it came back on on channel 9

In the end i ran a new pair of wires along from the cb above the trim and down the trim on the a post then connected to the fusebox, only took 1/2 hour max and you know it is safe!

hope this helps, regards Neil...

Hi guys,
Thought this might be the problem, Neil how did you wire it to the fuse box? The other idea was to splice it into the fag lighter wiring, as you can get adapters that plug in to them.

You should be able to splice it into the ignition live wire that feeds to the sunroof controls. Mine has no sunroof but the wiring loom extends that far and is taped to the underside of the roof.
