What a surprise!
« on: October 04, 2005, 12:45:04 »
My brother recently got a Discovery 200TDi which is currently standard.

I have obviously got so used to the height of mine - I went to get into his and kind of "fell" into the seat   Very strange

My old mum can't get into mine any more. She thought she'd started shrinking.

Wait till I put the next 3" of lift on.....

Oi, showoff

The first time Pauline (tried) got into mine after I'd done the lift and tyres, she nearly fell straight out again   What I should have said was "OK, I'd better get some rock sliders with steps on"

Can't you fit an electric chair lift for her? Or maybe a hoist   My mum has had the same trouble getting into most of my brother's cars!

This is where you need suspension lilke Owl! Does the latest RR and Disco have a "Mum" setting on the suspension?

It's cheaper to get a plastic caravan step, put a small chain on it and screw the other end somewhere in the car.
Pull it out when she gets in and then drag it back in with the chain.

Of course I could go round the other side and give a good shove

i think also the seating position is slightly different between 200 and 300 as i notice it between my 2, in the 300 i dont need to use the sun visor at all as i sit higher whereas the 200 i use it as i seem to sit lower :?

That's usually because by 10 years old the frames have sunk so badly on a 200 :)

Especially when weight challenged people like me have been taking them off road.

If you can mig weld the seat is fairly easy to repair.
Some swap the driver and passenger seat over. It makes more sense to have the seat back adjuster on the door side anyway.

Getting the seat out is the hardest part. Then take all of the seat material off the base. Straighten it out and weld strengtheners in. I actually braised them in as the metal wasn't very good quality. Lick of paint and then stick it all back together.
On a 5 door if you leave it the seat will eventually get stuck and stop sliding.

HTH if anyone's having to do one.
