have you got a trailer attached...?  :P   just checking!!

its more than likely going to be a short somewhere, im assuming you have the electrics for a trailer? if so check all the connections around that.

yeh, i wouldnt worry about it, but if you're anything like me it will annoy you that its not right!  easy way around it though is just stick some duct tape over it! or if you dont do any towing or anything take the bulb out

Check that the correct flasher unit is fitted - later 300-Series have 6 indicators (+2 side repeaters), and it's possible that someone's replaced the flasher with the wrong one.

Or you could have a bulb that's gone high resistance and it's making the circuit think there's an extra bulb connected on the side where the trailer light keeps flashing.

Try the suggestions given first.

Do you have the 12N electrics on the vehicle?

The black lidded socket for normal trailer road lights? (indicators, fog, tail & brake)

Have a read, it might help??

It's probably got the wrong relay fitted.

I see it's a '98 like mine.
If it's got 4 rear-indicators (2 body & 2 bumper) you need flasher relay AMR4873 in order to operate the 'trailer tell-tale'

Only problem is, it's about £20.00 +vat

If it's a 2 indicator set-up, ask someone else

My first click lights it up. Like a test but then stops unless the trailer is on of course maybe it just keeps checking it better safe than sorry

Doesn't help, I know, but my 200tdi has a similar problem.  The trailor tell tale always flashes with the indicator one.

It's done this ever since I first used a trailor.  I don't worry about it because all the indicators work as they should.

No it doesn't.

It lights up first click and then goes off - unless I've got the van on the back in which case it works as it should.

If a bulb's gone it goes into clicker overdrive.
