« on: October 05, 2005, 21:02:49 »
been busy today just fitted warn9.5 xp winch with heavy duty isolator and uprated to a waterproof albright solinoide and placed both in the front bulk-head next to battery 1 well out of reach from mud ect... got no skin left on my hands to say its tight is an understatement also fitted the control socket next to isolator switch out of harms way
any one got any idears for the numberplate as i dont want to mount on top of mount as it will restrict the air-flow to the rad and intercooler is it ok to mount on the front of bonnet as i know thanks to tim /muddyweb that the stick on ones are only for show and offroading wondering if i keep original and put that there would it be ok any any advice welcome regards colin

You could use original plate with flo tube holders fixed to it. these then push on securely to the winch rollers. just take them off when off roading.

the front number plate does have to be fitted for a MOT but providing the digits are correctly spaced and of the correct width(i.e not ittalics ect.),then it is o.k. However the law has a different view on this!!!

Having said that i am going to order a stick on number plate or the bonnet on mine as i have nowhere to fit a proper one, like evryone else with a winch and bullbars   :)

There's two different things at play here.

MOT test and Construction and use.

As of not so very long ago, they changed the legislation with regard to number plates and their supply.  (Apparently this will help reduce car crime and identity theft... I suppose the car thieves must all use halfords for their plates)

Stick on plates are no longer "legal" number plates for road use...  plates also have to carry the name and postcode of the supplying outlet.  You also need to provide the vehicle V5, some proof of id, a DNA sample and your first born son to get one.

Despite the stickers we supply being on a proper reflective background, using the official number plate font (which you can still freely and legally buy... go figure !), and with all the correct spacing....  we have to advise our customers that they are for off-road or display purposes only.

I've never had issues with a stick on plate... and it has been looked at by Police officers...  in my experience, it is one of the excuses they can use if they want to legitimately stop you for a chat.   (Since they still don't have random stopping powers)

Hope that covers all the ins and outs ;-)

I drilled a couple of holes in the plate and the bumper and stuck it here:

I may get the odd breakage but nothing so far!

But might be worth removing it before you go out playing, or better still get a number plate holder and clip it in that

Ed can vouch for what can happen after a while, and me too, one of my plates is in the bottom of a stream somewhere roound leicestershire

Well it's seen me okay for over 2 years including 2 Belgium Nationals and few other offroading trips including a couple at Langdale Quest and there's not even a scratch on it yet so I leave it there for now.    :D

On my 90's winch bumper I had a sticky plate in the same place and was fine as well, though it did get a bit damaged when I was using the bumper to push my SIIa into the garage one day!!  8-[
