i think i need a new alternator

hi all,
i used a booster to start my 413 the other day the thing is it was a
24/12volt booster and i used it on 24volts by mistake!!!!never known a
starter motor to whizz round as quick as that..anyway now the car runs
but the red battery warning light is permanantly on is this my
alternator or something else??if it is my alternator has anyone around
the rochdale area got one knocking about cheapish!!!or is it possible
to repair my own thanks glyn......

have you checked the fuse off the back of the alternator? sometimes short way up the wiring loom, 30Amp i think
