I have a 4ft jackall and its being a pain. Each time I use it a splitpin breaks or I have problems lowering it.
Its been looked after and its about 2 years old.
Im thinking of getting a 5ft, so do I buy jackall, Hi Lift or is there anything that is better?

Mine a jackall and I have never had a problem with it.

I have just had a similar problem with a Farm Jack.  My uncle has been using the same High-Lift for 20+ years and it is still fine so I know what i'll buy next.

In my humble opinion, the extra £10 or so quid to get a Hi-Lift as oppose to one of the alternatives is worth it, since I've never had a problem with a "proper" one, and no end of broken bits with the other sort :(

agreed but have you thought about getting one of those jacks which blow up using exhaust gases?

personally i bought a hi lift

they arent known as hi lift jacks for nothing ;)

i have seen the the exhaust ones work fine on grass - but on stoney tracks - i just know whether  it will split.......

With a 2" lift and bigger tyres on the exhaust bag jacks don't even get the wheels off the floor.
I ended up getting the Hi lift out.

I have a geniune Hi Lift and I think it's the business.  I have 2 hong-kong-fuey ones i bought dirt cheap (one was supposedly broken) and on both the roll-pins are broken or failing.  These are not expensive parts to replace but it's a case of "spoiling the ship....".

Hi-Lift is definitely the best, with the farm jacks get a Jackall, not a copy.

I'm with RRBlues  :wink:

I have a High-Lift, they are the original and are still the best IMHO and Jackalls are a very close second. Stear away from "Farm Jacks" the price difference is not enough to justify considering the use of such equipment.

When you say "it been looked after" does that include greasing the mainshaft so that the mechanisum runs up & down smoothly?

I always give my Hi-Lift a good greasing before a trip (keeps the rust away as well as mine sits on the roofrack), it makes a mess of your gloves but better than it not working as it should.  :wink:

These can be a dangerous piece of kit if not opporated correctly or in good working order and it's better to go for the best rather than the cheapest IMHO!

Hi lift without a doubt.

Just another point to remember. I bent my hi-lft and ARBRIL (the importers) replaced it free of charge after 3 years or use!!!!

Now that is service!!!  

Its Hi-lift for me I'll tell you that!  :D

Personally its hi-lift for me, nearly damaged myself on evil farm jacks in the past so won't touch them with barge poles:-)

I can appreciate that many people recommend hi-lift over "xyz-lift" - but does anyone have any specific reasons (rather than personal preferences) to do so?

Can a hi-lift do something that no other type can? Are they made of different material(s)? Are they rated for different lifting weights? Do the "others" have known problems?

Sorry, but I tend not to be a person to buy a product solely based on who makes it :wink:
