ideally I want a winch where I can mount the solenoid in the engine bay or with a low enough profile so I can keep my wipac lights on the a-bar.

Turtles got an ews 9000 (although his is called something else). He has used his.

I have one fitted to karens 110 but not used it in anger yet.

I mounted my solonoid pack above the winch cable. Turtle mounted his under the passenger seat (wish I thought of that)

If you fancy the trip you can come and take a look at it.

That C9000G winch is exactly the same winch as the GEW 10000 that I have, only mine has the bridge style solonoid. The GEW's are made in China!!

Spot the difference. :-k

This one is on a mounting plate.

I don't think the Champion Winches are U.S made, they maybe, but the site only says "THE FASTEST GROWING WINCH BRAND IN THE US & CANADA." not "Made in USA".

Anyway, all that apart, they still good winches. Mine got the Discovery out of  the mud a few times and I've not heard is straining yet. The only thing I changed on mine was to fit an Alloy fairlead and Plasma rope.  :D

The bolt fixings on the GEW are the same as the Superwinch X9 so any of David Bowyer's winch bumpers will fit. He also sells the GEW winch, so you may be able to do a deal with him for the winch & bumper!!

Not at all! After a few measurements and a footprint plan to www.Rebel4x4.com and they worked out that their bumper designed for the Warn winch would fit! Which it did no Probs

Just a thought has anyone used a caravan leisure battery instead of an optimax ?

Not a good idea for a winch Paul,
Leisure batteries are designed for slow discharge.

Yep, same as my GEW 10000 only with different badging.
Nice winch and worth the money.

When you fit it, look out for the clutch release lever, I had to take the gearbox off and turn the lever 90 degrees clockwise so it was accessable when the winch was fitted in the bumper.

It's an easy job, just lay everything out in the order it was removed.  :D
Oh, and make sure there is plenty of grease in the gearbox when you put it back together. the only other thing to look out for is the chrome on the roller fairlead, it didn't last that long on mine but I changed it for a alloy one to match the Plasma rope I fitted.

Paul! Come to think of it! I had to cut a small section out of my winch bumper to accomadate that clutch lever! I will take a quick pic in the morning so that you can see! Its not a hard task!!

I'd spoken to the guys today at winch solutions, they got in touch with the manufacturers a while ago and had the clutch release moved so it doesn't catch on the bumper.

As for being the same as the GEW - they may look it but are not the same inside.  These winches have been used in USA for 8 years or so and have been fully proven over there.
