Safari snorkel 200tdi, have they sent me the wrong one?
« on: October 11, 2005, 21:29:54 »
Hi guys,
Just had my safari snorkel, for my 200tdi, from paddocks delivered and it appears to be the wrong one. :(
On the website (paddocks) it says 200tdi/v8 fitment is the same, but on the safari website it says they are different, the 200tdi part number is SS300HF and the V8 is SS325HF. HOWEVER all that seems to be different is the v8 one, which they sent me has a few more bits to it that I don't need. Has anyone with a 200tdi ordered a snorkel from paddocks and which one were you sent?
Thanks a lot
Fram

I helpped Ciff fit that one and it had bits for the V8 in the box as well as the tdi. So i think they are the same do you have all the bits you need.

yes i ordered my snorkel from paddocks and when it arrived i thought the same, that they had sent me the wrong, one but you dont need half the bits in the box the only thing i thought was bad  is the big rubber hose is shaped for the v8 set up and i had to cut  mine in half to get it to fit i then siliconed everything around the air box etc and so far every time  i have played in water my filter has stayed bone dry just wish i could say the same for my carpet around the door sills

I must have had an earlier version because mine only had the 200tdi bits.
Maybe they've done this to make it easier at the point of sale so that they aren't having to hold one for a V8 and one for tdi in stock at the same time.
I can't think where a curved pipe would come into use on a 200 though.
There is a curved s type pipe on a 300tdi which is more difficult to fit than the 200.

When fitting measure mark then measure again and check again. Plenty of masking tape around where you are working and Bob's your uncle.

When I fitted mine many moons ago, I didn't have anything left over, and it fitted fine.  Maybe they've amalgamated two kits.

Hi,

Mine came from Paddocks a couple of weeks ago (H Reg 200Tdi) and I fitted it last weekend. It went together OK but I had to grind the inlet to the air filter quite a bit to get it to fit flush and mine had the S shaped rubber pipe which I had to cut to fit between the filter canister and snorkel. I only needed about 4" of the pipe.

Couple of other thoughts, you will need some silcone sealer and possibly some new clips for the inner plastic wheel arch. Mine didn't want to come off easily.

P.s. it started Pi@$&ng down with rain as soon as I had reached the point of no return so be prepared with a plastic sheet and some poles to make a tent!

P.p.s. It's worth it in the end!

Thanks for that, I will have a grinder handy!!
Also how did you seal up the 'dump valve ' bit, do you just silicone it together with maybe a jubilee clip?
