Electric fan on TD5?
« on: October 17, 2005, 17:33:55 »
I'm having the viscous fan sorted out next week (it's seized).  As the new bearing's not cheap, it did occur to me whether it's worth fitting an electric fan instead.

Do they make much difference?  Worth having done?

I prefer electrics, especially if you are doing a lot of wading as you can shut it down to stop water / muck getting sprayed all over the place.   You may also find the engine comes up to temperature a little quicker in the mornings.

I removed the viscous fan back in June as it had excessive play in it.

I've been runing without since then, Towing too and never had a problem.

If it gets warm (hasn't yet) I would just stick the climate control on and the two big electric fans fire up.
