i would love to convert my disco to an auto and at the same time lower the ratio on the transfer box to cope with oversized wheels


where oh where do i start??????

I'd start with a V8 and work backwards!!  :D

The TDi is not know to be the best coupled with an auto box, very sluggish unless you do a lot to increase the engine power.  I would try and get a drive of an auto TDi before you actually start seriously thinking about a conversion.  :wink:

Your main issue is going to be finding the parts..  Tdi Autos are few and far between.

You can swap the transfer box over simply enough to a Defender variant which will change the gearing for you.

i got an auto 200tdi and what i find is the fact that when traverlling less than 48 mph she wants to change down all while which gets annoying when traverling behind heavy traffic ect but yes  with the power upgrade she tends to want to get to top gear quicker than normal but has still got that gear lag
