Injector Pump Tweek & Welsh Plug

I've recently cleaned out the standard intercooler and tweeked the pump a little to improve performance....BIG SMILE...but I can't remove the welsh/welch/core plug from the top of the AFC on the pump. Rather than ripping it off and making things worse does anyone know what size it is so I can buy a replacement so it re-seals properly? Or does anyone know a part number or supplier?

Don't know the part number but I managed to get mine out using two small electrical screwdrivers. It's quite soft metal so you can alway bend it back into shape afterwards.  :wink:

when I took mine out of the defender it broke into little pieces  :oops:

The one right on top of your injector pump, in the centre of the diaphram cover, it hides the "smoke adjustment screw" which is a torx bolt with a locknut on it.  :wink:

budgie:: see as ive tweaked the diphram & the smoke screw what diff will doing the star wheel make??

Turning the star wheel clockwise will loosen the tention on the diaphram spring and allow it to go to full fuel much quicker.
It just made mine smoke so I didn't move the star wheel that much IIRC.  :wink:

Cheers guys.

I can't get mine off for love nor money. Looks like I'll have to trash it.

I've done the diaphragm on mine, although i got very confused as my dot was at 6 o'clock and that itself was 15 degrees out from the *weakest* face of the pin. I came to the conclusion it was already set at 75 degrees from this point so I've turned it clockwise another 60 degrees, making 135 degrees CW from it's weakest setting.

I'm with Budgie, the star wheel adjustment made no noticeable difference apart from smoke so I've reset mine to original set up. It also raised the tickover a tad.

I could do with a little extra low pressure oomph thats why I'm trying to access to smoke screw. Rip it off and leave it off looks like my only option.

all ive done on mine is, remove the outer cover/cap and turn the whole diaphram / smoke adjuster 90 degrees clockwise, that has almost eliminated any turbo lag :lol:
