V8 tubular manifolds and 4 barrel carbs
« on: October 21, 2005, 18:06:14 »
Anyone any suggestions on where to buy tubular exhaust manifolds for the 110 V8? Mild steel would do me fine, but would consider stainless if not too much more expensive. I've looked at Janspeed and RPI. Might also consider a 'freeflow' system to go with them

Also, any advise on the 4 barrel carbs (Weber or Holley)? Are they worth fitting? Or are they not a huge improvement over a pair of SU's or Strombergs? I've certainly got reservations about water intake with the big pancake filter. Far more difficult to get water into the old SU filter box.

I've no argument with anything that makes the engine scavenge better so if you can afford and justify the expense then get tubulars - I would. As for holly/weber: not for me thank you very much, they really don't like side slopes.

Oh and i've never heard of tubulars cracking before, though i've bust the welds on a few y-pieces.

got stainless tubulars on my dads 110 along with the full sports system, now that makes a differance,IMHO if you only plan on street driving then a holley or webber are great but if you plan on goin offroad then dont bother as neither like the bumps & jolts unless you buy the modification parts to stop them flooding,

Id stick with twin or quad SU's & fit Big needles to get some go

Poor bairn - i've just sold a complete set (pipes, carbs and fannymould). I'm sure i could find more. BTW BBZ are the biggest you can put in there and trust if they'll fuel a 3.9 in an interesting manner.............

Thanks guys. The stuff about flooding downdraught carbs is good to know. I'll save myself the £400  :D

I think I'll go for the complete Janspeed manifolds and system unless I spot anything else before the engine swap.

Now, just to find a good V8 locally.......

Fair enough, Mike. I'll bear that in mind when I get to that stage.
