I know you can beef up your drag link etc. by sliding over some steel pipe of a suitable diameter. I assume I just measure up the diameter and pop donw and buy the pipe - is there any special quality of steel to buy. Any dumb pitfalls I can tumble into?

I don't really know what pitfalls there are regarding material etc. I have heard of people stuffing the inside of the tube with masking tape to stop them rattling and others stuffing them full of grease to help them 'rotate'.

I am beginning to be of the opinion that at the reasonable price of some of the off-the-shelf strengthened bars (Sumo/Danbars/QT) etc. there is hardly any point in doing anything else - and I am ususally the first person to try and save spending money! :lol:

The big problem here is that your local steel stockist probely won't keep the correct diameter of 6mm wall tubing in stock, i found out this when i tried to save some money, they only order in 7 meter lengths and it costs about Ã‚Â£180, so unless a few people want them it isn't worth the outlay whan you consider a Danbars is only about Ã‚Â£30.

You can get a Dan bar for 30 quid - where from?

As to buying a full length I may be able to get round that as there a number of stockists and fabricators round me and they all seem stunningly frendly and helpful.

I know of them but I had the idea they were pretty expensive and I couldn't find the steering bars on the web site. There's Kensons as well who do bars with ends and all for about a ton I think.

I hadn't realised that they had a web site - Ã‚Â£82 become Ã‚Â£108 after delivery and VAT though.

FWIW I paid Ã‚Â£34 for mine.

The Kenson bar is a complete, thicker, steering bar as opposed to just a reinforcing tube, hence the price increase.

When you re-assemble the steering bars, use a smidge of copper-slip on the thread on the ball joint - it makes than a cinch to replace in the field.

I fitted the Kenson bars to the 110. The Ã‚Â£100 goes to Ã‚Â£115 after carriage is added, but they are supplied as a pair and complete with the 3 track rod ends.

I got mine from Nene Valley tyres - none of the slide over stuff, but the Solid ones complete with Track rod ends all for around Ã‚Â£80.

Well tuff.....can jack the motor up on them (if I wanted to)

I run a steering guard from Devon but we all know they are never enough!!

For a challenge truck, what do people recoemmend then?#

im looking at replacing mine with a sumo bar as when i went to undo my trackrod end it sheared off and the end seems like its siezed solid in the track rod so i thought what a good time to change :lol: if you look at the website why is the track rod a different length from a disco to a defender dont they use the same axle?

the track rod is a different length for a disco & defender as the disco uses 2 rh thread TRE's & an adjuster where as the defender uses a RH & LH thread TRE,

Got sumo bars on the racer & pulled a kirbstone out the ground with the TR on a compsafari & didnt mark it much,although Just in case i carry a spare drop arm & drag link & TR tubes & ends

I thought the axles on a Disco and Defender were quite different mine are I'm sure - although I dare say over the years they may have rationalised this.
