wading plug - timing case
« on: October 25, 2005, 12:13:08 »
Why is that when ever I remove my front wading plug from the timing case on my 300tdi, there is always water in there?

The plug is always tight, so where else can it be getting into the case?

Round the gasket Dave. They never seal properly as I found out on my old NAD. There's not enough torque on the bolts to make the difference. It's the same principle as your axles, dump it in cold water and it sucks air (or water) through any available weak point.

Someone somewhere does a breather kit with a plug and tube, the same as an axle casing. The only draw back to these are should you have an oil leak anywhere behind your timing casing then the oil can't escape and not only fills the timing case but blocks the breather pipe.

David, its because of the cold air/hot engine theory as Mace is talking about.  Ive had the same problem  :x

Ive just bought one of these that in theory, should stop the air pressure problem and means you can stop messing around with plugs etc!!

For £15 its a little pricey maybe BUT in my eyes thats pricless for the time saved and the reduced risk of the water and rubbish snapping the belt

What do you think?
