Any one out there got much experience with waffle boards? Want some for general use, but how much difference does it make gritty textured surface v's regular smooth, and are 38mm plenty strong enough or are 50mm appreciably better?
..any views.......?

And Im not talking ones with cream on

I run the devon 4x4 38mm ones and they seem very strong. They creak and groan but thats the material doing that.

The 50mm are stronger BUT they ALOT heavier. If your doing challenge events then the 38's are graet as they come out dead easy, the 50mm are a bit of a struggle especially when full of mud.

The D44 range also includes the nice sleeves for them. You can mount them inside, outside etc. Designed for a 90 BUT ive seen them on most

Get a set, you wont regret it. They are quick, if Im stuck, I drop a waffle down and 50% it works. No winch, no recovery. Always uselful :D

was the D44 i was considering as both thickness are the same price. cheviot 4x4 also do a shorter textured green one that is cheeper which im tempted with. depends if cheeper is 'Cheep' if you get my drift

I got a pair of 50mm waffles off eBay for about Ã‚Â£35 and there are always some on there.
I've just had a look now and can only find 2 pairs but the seller does 38 & 50mm.

I'm pleased with mine, they are smooth on one side with a grit covering on the other for extra grip. Yes the 50mm's are a wee bit on the heavy side but they do me and sit nicely on the roofrack.
Not taking anything away from the more expensive/better quality ones but if you're on a budget or not using them every weekend then at Ã‚Â£35 for a pair I think they are worth the money!

Hi,

Iv got a pair of the 50mm ones,

paid Ã‚Â£50 for them as well postage and packaging,

As Ash said, they are very heavy when full and if you don't like getting muddy, then bye the slightly lighter ones as you shall get muddy with these.

As for surfave, they usually have both, one side is rough and the other side is smooth,

Its amazing what you can d with them, iv had all my landy resting on them and they only fexed about an inch.

I got some of ebay and as they were so cheap I did not mind cutting a small bit off the end so they fit in the back of my frontera.

Not needed them yet but they fell stong enough.

get a set any seriouse offroader would have a set great for crossing ditches /climbing rocks crossing sand and keeps co driver fit

Almost, more accurate would be they can get you out of a lot of problems, sometimes in conjunction with other aids

i get it now there used to get people out of stupid places, when used with winches and other things
