The 200tdi Disco has been standing for nearly 3 months,
I went out in it last weekend and noticed that the fuel gauge isn't working.

I have checked the fuse, but carn't get to the sender unit due to the rear
floor being boarded out, Is there anything else I should check before I
unbolt my storage boxes and then start removing the wooden floor. ??

had the same thing on one of mine, turned out to be the wires on the sender so you may well have to unbolt the boxes :lol:

That's what I was thinking.. but it's going to take half a day or so
to remove the storage boxes and wooden floor before I can get to
the sender unit cover. :(

if you look under one side you may be able to get at the plug for the wires, it may be where the fault is :D

How about cutting an access hole after the boxes are out, save removing the whole floor

Nice idea, measurements would be handy so I know were to cut an access hole in the wooden floor.

Cut a big hole in the wooden floor and found the inspection cover,
After removing all the mud I found the top of the sender unit and
replaced the spade connector, Cleaned up the connection on the
unit and turned the ignition on....

It's still not working. :cry:

aah could of course actually be the fuel sender up the shoot, if you have a multi meter you could check it before removing

I have 1 wire on it's own (No power)
and 3 wires that I havn't checked, Just cleaned.

I'm not sure what I should have on what wire to be honest.

I'm sure you've covered this as it is too obvious, but:

3 months is a long time for a slow leak.....

Are you sure it is your fuel guage, and not simply no fuel?

Any idea how much spare wiring there is?

I'm just wondering if before you start taking things off (which sounds like a long process), whether it would be possible to park up a similar vehicle next to it and plug your electrics into their tank....

This would answer whether the problems lies inside your tank, or in the wiring somewhere.

Cleared away more mud and muck from the top of the sender and
noticed a small wet area on the metal return pipe, I tried to clean it
up to see were it was coming from and the pipe snaped off. :evil:

The metal pipes have rusted badly are are paper thin. :shock:

I need a new sender unit quickly. :cry:

I know that senario very well from my citroen hydraulics :( got to a stage where every pipe I looked at sprung a leak and thats a very high pressure system :(

Trouble with buying one from the scrap yard is that it will more than likely be in the same poor condition.

I've tried DLS and a few others, I can get one for under £100 now but I'm still looking.
