The famous remains of Donald Campbells boat (K7) BlueBird may yet be returning to Coniston Water, the lake that claimed his life, as daughter, Gina, is in dispute with the National Lottery over the restoration (or not, as the case may be)

Same here, gords.  I personally would want it to be left as it is, infact, I find it rather interesting, looking at the wreckages of past time vehicles which have a strong part in history.

Without even looking at the link I know that is about Parry-Thomas's aero-engined racer that he died in (decapitated by a drive-chain) on Pendine Sands
It caught fire during the incident & the crew had to apparantly break his legs to retrieve the body
It ws buried in the sands & in the early 1990s??, it was dug up (from within the military ranges*) & restored

It featured in a Channel 4(?) series a couple of years ago called 'Speed Machines' (still occasionallyrepeated on Discovery channel


* Pendine Ranges have a fantastic rocket railway that can apparantly do 800mph+, it's used for missile air-flow testing  
The Thust SSC team used it to test & record supersonic airflow over models for computer modelling

Regarding my Pendine Sands information'[/i]
I've been checking up down in my 'snug' & the track is;
1.6km long
Level to within 0.6mm over that length :shock:
Capable of carrying a sled at up to Mach 3.2

The Thrust teams model only did 0-850mph :roll: , but in 0.8seconds :shock:  :shock:
That's roughly 50G


Steel, Babs wasn't the only Land Speed Record contender to crash on the sands
The same source downstairs that gave up the rocket-sled information also revealed another car & driver

i went to Holker Hall (Grange over Sands) last week and saw the replicas of the car and boat used in the film adout Campbells life.
a fantastic wall display charting his record breaking attempts
the lottery hands overe money for less worthy causes
they should allow the family to decide

personally i think it should be fully restored to its former glory, but with a complete record of the restoration.
i can under stand the family wanting to remember it in its former glory, than a wreck showing how a great man died.
