A lucky escape?
« on: November 11, 2005, 09:18:07 »
Went to the Wiltshire regional meet on Wednesday and on the way home the vehicle felt a bit 'wallowy' but nothing seemed obviously wrong.

Managed to get home and after looking at the front drivers wheel it was then clear that the hub had moved on the stub shaft  :(

Jacked the vehicle up, took the wheel off the drum and without much effort the hub pulled right off the stub shaft.    The outer wheel bearing had disintegrated and had mashed up the internals of the FWH in the process.

How the wheel didn't come off and cause an incident I don't know but I think I was very lucky to get away with it.

Bought an axle repair kit yesterday and fitted new inner and outer bearings etc and replaced the FWH with the original drive hubs  so it's back on the road again now.

I think that may have been one of my nine lives used up :)
