some low life scumbag has decided to slash both my drivers side tyre        

now i cant get to work

cos i run a funny size tyre no ones got them in stock

I would reccommend you report it to the police, they probably won't actually do anything, but theyu can add it to their records, and if anything else happens around you (and they actually catch them) they can lock them up for longer.

Secondly, I hope you catch the little <insert as appropriate> first  :twisted:

Not last christmas but the one before, some clever j**k thought it would be funny to go down our road slashing a tyre on every single car!

One of the neighbours with an old escort cabriolet had two slashed - and theirs was on the drive.

You could even tell where they had crossed over from one side of the road to the other.  And did the police do anything, despite 30 odd cars being targeted, not a thing!

Report it anyway, at least you will make them have to do the paperwork!

You not the only one mate I have had all 4 tyres slashed b 4. Never cought them but i found out who. This was 4 years ago and I have left it. talkin of hating this country i had to put one of my dogs down today so that was a bad start anyway, so decided to walk to the shop just down the road with the other dog ans the other half so off we go get down there and hanging around the outside of the shop is ten kids all mucking around gettin in the way off people so we do are shopping start to walk away when the kids start kicking the the sign outside the shop which makes a very loud banging sound so this in turn makes my dog try to run as she has been scared stupid by fireworks over the last few days so at this point i loose my temper and give em my mind which probaly i should not off done but they just dont care or have any respect towards anyone  and this really grips me this country which may i add i love and also serv in the force for it needs a serious kick up the bum.   sorry rant over

Na good on ya mate there are not enough people like you about. Kids nowa days are little s**ts. There parents cant do anything to keep them under control. When I was a kid if I was cought doing something like that I would get the belt ( NOT NICE ) but I never did it again. The goverment is F***ed. They have lost it and we need a new one with new views. To much money and politics makes people think they rule the world if you ask me.

finally arrived at work now, got 3 new tyres fitted for £280  

reported it to the plod and like everyone says they just gave me a crime ref number.

cant praise flux rescue enough though. did there best to get a mobile tyre fitter out and once we found that wasnt going to work they took me 30 miles on a flat bed to a tyre place that had them in stock. and because i was on a flat bed i beat the huge que of cars waiting for tyres  :D

lets hope i never find out who did it though or they'll be needing more than a crime ref number

Beg to differ, mate. More often than not, you'll find that parents cannot be arsed to keep them under control, in many cases because the parents are worse than the little brat.

When I was a nipper ( not so long ago ) i knew if I played up ro did something naughty I got hit, Hit not abused, not asulted...... smacked! Now if I think Lotty needs pulling into line not even I, her father can legally give her the same treatment!

bring back the days of a copper givin kids a cuff round the ear, teachers doin the same, the cane ( abolished just before my middle school (thank god! )) and the right for a parent to smack a naughty child!

Commission calls for a ban on even the gentlest smacking of children

Parents should be banned from inflicting even the mildest of smacks on their children because they often do it out of anger and "social stress" rather than as a "considered disciplinary measure", a report said yesterday.

The Commission on Families and the Wellbeing of Children, chaired by an eminent child psychiatrist, said smacking could escalate to "frank abuse" and it was wrong for children to have less legal protection than adults.


Parents face up to five years' imprisonment if they leave a mark
Under the law, mild smacking is allowed but parents who hit children hard enough to leave a mark face up to five years' imprisonment.

A "reasonable chastisement" defence is still available to parents but they can be charged with common assault if a smack causes bruises, grazes, scratches, minor swellings or cuts.

The Government suffered a rebellion by 47 Labour MPs who wanted a total ban on smacking when the measures were passed in the Children Act last November.

But the commission said: "The defence to a charge of common assault of reasonable chastisement by a parent should be abolished."

The commission was set up by the Government-funded National Family and Parenting Institute and the children's charity NCH, formerly the National Children's Homes, which receives most of its income from the Government.

It is funded, however, by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, an independent charity.

Prof Sir Michael Rutter, who chairs the commission, said: "Although most parents who use physical discipline do not abuse their children, research has shown that children in families where physical discipline is used extensively are more likely. . . to be physically abused."

The report cited research showing a link between families with a culture of violence "including the regular use of physical punishment" and "incidence of physical abuse".

It said the evidence pointed to physical abuse arising in response to "anger, emotional and social stress and family relationship problems - often as an expression of parental rejection or hostility".

Parents who hit their children often did so as a way of dealing with their own anger and frustration.

On whether smacking was effective, the report said: "Corporal punishment as with other forms of discipline can secure compliance with parental demands. However, there is evidence of some link with behaviour problems including aggression and anti-social behaviour in the longer term."

The report said under-12s should never be held responsible for their crimes, no matter how serious.

The law states that children under 10 cannot commit crimes because they are too young to weigh up what is right and wrong and to deliberately break the law.

But research by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, used by the commission, said a child's understanding of crime may not be fully developed until their late teens, even though a "degree of maturation" was achieved by 14.

Sir Michael said there needed to be a clear distinction between where the child's responsibility ended and the parent's began. Although it was fair to say there was overlap, there needed to be a "cut-off" age to mark out responsibility in a court of law.

He said the age of criminal responsibility should be increased to 12 but added that doli incapax - a presumption of innocence - should be reintroduced up to the age of 16 to allow for the "highly variable process of moral development in children".

Critics said this meant half a million burglars and drug dealers would only rarely be brought before the courts.

But Sir Michael stressed: "We are not saying people should not be brought before the courts but that it should be done with the proper recognition of the immaturity of kids as young as 10.

"Nor are we saying that children should be let off but [we are] asking 'does the child know what he has done is wrong and have the ability to see consequences?'."

The commission called for the Government to issue clear guidelines on the age when children could be left by themselves and the minimum age at which a child could act as a babysitter.

Never did me any harm. The goverment stinks. I understand there are people out there that are down right cruel to there kids and they need a good stiff kicking and then prison but its like us lot cant give our kids a good smack because of thoses people....

Trouble is, a lot a parents now seem to think that discipline and education should be left entiely to the schools.  Yes, schools (should) be prtly responsible , but IT'S YOUR CHILD!

o YOU can teach discipline, YOU can teach them respect (NOT FEAR - RESPECT) and YOU can teach them manners.

Come to that, parents can also teach kids to read etc, but it's amazing how many don't bother nowadays - 'Read to him? Nah...he's on the Playstation till bedtime'

Agree totally. I've got two girls 7 and 9 and the most important things I've wanted to teach them are manners, politeness and respect for others. If something happens at school its for my wife & I to sort out as well. We have smacked them if their behaviour has been really out of order and after several warnings (not left a mark) and I believe it has further enforced our discipline. Blimey, makes us sound like real ogres, I suppose I can count on one hand the number of times I have smacked them, so it is very rare. On the whole they are really good kids and I'm proud of them. Though they'll probably turn out to be teenagers from hell!!

I know mischief has always been there but I think now the problem is that children are being taught or getting wise to the details of the law at such a young age.  While this can not be a bad thing, when a young teenager starts at you telling you what you can or can't do (according to the law), nowadays in the climate of litigation you are more likely to just leave it.  Ultimately I don't think there is much you can do but learn what you can or can't do but to do this properly you really need the motivation of someone who can be bothered to sit and read the details of the law.  Anyway loosing track, just remember that you are lawfully alowed to use reasonable force to protect your property (this does not mean you belt the living cr*p out of a person slashing your tyres), but as long as you can justify your actions with a clear conscience you should be OK.......SHOULD.  Do you still want to risk it?
