is the 110 rear axle/diff a stronger unit than the one in 90's disco's etc if so why doesnt any one change to this set up, if not why did land rover use the sailsbury(spelling) diff etc on the 110.
200 tdi disco
bf goodrich muds 265/75/16 on mods
2"lift bearmach springs pro comp shocks
1"body lift
rock sliders
diff guards
safari snorkel
steering guard
rear arches cameled
wizard bits steering damper relocation kit
sumo track rod####sold it#

now own lc colorado 2000 x reg 30td  and loving it!!!!

the axle is huge in physical size compared to the other units,also it was drums only till about 94 onwards

And if it wasn't Salisbury (about as close to Dana D60 as you can get), it was the equally tough 4 pin.

Proof of the pudding an' all that - there are still oodles of racers that want the mythical Salisbury front (that featured on some very rare miliatry stuff and very early hi-cap 110s (IIRC))

They're certainly tough, but heavy, difficult to work on, and physically very large.  They don't do much for ground clearance either.

Personally I don't want to drag the weight of one around... :wink:

I'm with you Mr W.   As Eeyore says, they are much harder to repair too.  So if you do get any damage / wear, then it's a big pain

I'll second that - they a complete Cow (no offence 'Enry!) to work on. And upgraded internals can be alarmingly expensive.

They were also vastly more expensive for the factory (always a deciding factor), hence fitment was limited.

A good Salisbury is no more expensive (or no cheaper) than a good, newer, 4-pin type on the second hand market.

What was the 4 pin fitted to Eeyore?  I know we were talking about it at the weekend.

Is it basically a 90/Disco/RR axle with a 4 pin diff?  Like they used to fit in genuine V8 90's?

How much do you reckon you can pick one up for s/h?
