Just bought a 90td problem is its gutless and very heavy on fuel, checked filters -all clean lift pump is clean also,  when i rev it stationary i dont hear the turbo -there is no black smoke from the engine , the engine is sound no knocks or rattles -but it doesnt want to rev feels like its holding back ,any ideas suggestions  on the prob?

have you ever driven a 2.5 na?
if so, if your feels faster then its probably whereabouts it should be.

other than that check all of the obvious things including throttle cable adjustment, but dont assume the turbo is knackered and up the boost - the chances are it will damage your engine.

Thanks for that Dave , i dont think its the character of the engine to be that gutless it feels like a problem, i somehow think that its fuel related, :(

You won't hear the turbo when it is stationary... needs to be working really.

Drive along with the passenger window open (preferably next to a hedge or wall) and give it some boot.  (Uphill is good too)


The much simpler way to check it is to get a boost guage and attach it to the engine.. this will tell you what it is doing.

Thanks for that Tim, Imuch prefer the technical approach than the ear to the problem area  test, will get the boost guage test done, cheers.
