Call that snow! A taste from the famous "wrong kind of snow" blizzard of December 1990.

Doubt we'll see any snow of that type for a while.

Met Office says it'll arrive up here anytime from 6am Thursday onwards and expected to really start coming down during the afternoon and overnight into Friday.

Great, I'm on nightshift Thursday & Friday!!  :(

Mind you, they've also forecast Storm Force winds to go with it so maybe the snow won't actually hit the ground until it gets further South.

That WAS a winter.  We were living in a caravan at the time because my parents were renovating a house up on the hills in the Yorkshire Wolds.

I remember one morning, not being able to get out of the caravan because the snow was higher than the door!   :?   And six foot high walls of snow either side of the road.

:)  :) Talking of all this snow I remember of an incident a few years back..the snow was falling and drifting heavily and I was at the top of Arras Hill just outside Market Weighton in East Yorkshire...the road was slowly becoming blocked with snow...fortunately for me I was in a Range Rover so it did'nt present any problems to me...I was on top of the hill helping a motorist to about turn in his car when a 3 wheeled Robin Reliant came up the hill and continued on his journey oblivious to the snow and by now very narrow road...apart from other 4 x 4 vehicles this was the only car able to get over the hill...makes you think does'nt it

We've had a couple of snow showers up here but it's mostly snow pellets that we're getting. The wind is up to a Gale Force 8 and temp is 3 degrees outside.

The met office have issed this for up here:
Quote
Severe Gales, Blizzards & Heavy Snow
Affecting Eilean Siar, Highland & Orkney Islands
Heavy snow showers and gale force northerly winds will give blizzard conditions at times for the rest of today. The wind will gust to 70mph in association with heavy snow showers at low levels in coastal areas exposed to the northerly gales, and more generally over ground above 600m. The public are advised to take extra care.

Issued by Met Office.

Fires going well, just got back from the town and..............the ferries didn't sail so there's nothing in the shops, no milk, no bread, Co-op had no veg at all!

Outside air temp is now 1.5 degrees C, pressure is dropping slowly and there are some snow showers coming through but it's all snow pellets, no flakes yet. The wind is upto about 45-55mph and the local Met station has stopped sending data to the Met Office.

We don't normally get that much snow up here (in the Gulf Stream!!) but I'll be able to keep tabs on it through the night cos guess who's nightshift tonight!!
