Ever seen this? Snapped on my hybrid ?!?!?!?!
« on: November 25, 2005, 09:45:39 »
Yep, caliper snapped

Was in a serious deep, sticky hole stuck, winched out and when I next used the brakes they failed

Put it on the trailer as I could see a pipe going to the caliper snagged and kinked.  Thought nothing of it till I cleaned it and then I noticed it was not attached!!!!!!

Got some Disco ones on now  :D  :D
Ashley (but everyone knows me as Ash...)

Its not a build up of mud and crap on the hub forced it over and snapped it possibly?  Its bloody strong in the right direction, but if you imagine forcing a wedge of mud between the hub and the caliper body, then you are applying the forces in all the wrong directions.....

You didnt just break it trying to change the brake pads did you?
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

Or had you got them hot and then given them a dip in freezing water.   Certainly seen discs fail that way!

Yep  - a few years back on AWDC Comp on Salisbury Plain. In was the Simmonite sisters. The drive flange failed and the outward movement of the disc just tore the caliper in two. Left a wheel, hub, disk and half shaft rolling down the hill as one, with a hobbled Simmbughini limping off in t'other direction. Ended their day.

Don't quite think it was the failure in this case, though!

cheers
