To buy or not to buy
« on: December 06, 2005, 11:59:01 »
I have been offered a 1999 RR with 60-70 K on it for 11000. It's a DHSE P38.

It looks a pretty good buy to me, all teh bells and whistles etc. SWMBO is very keen but it's not one I know so  much about.

Is it a good buy at that price and can anybody tell me more about the BMW 6 cylinder Diesel engine?

Now that I would like to read !
Here's the problem; I work on Queen Mary 2, we are currently in the Western Atlantic then back to tha caribbean and around South America. It's realyl not all that bad but it can make picking up things like LRO quite challenging.

Do you have any idea when it was? I may be able to get it off the web.

If my memory serves me correctly:

Jan 06 is 300Tdi Defender
Dec 05 is Series 2a lightweight
Nov 05 is P38

But don't quote me on that, I will have a look to see if I can find it when I get home.

I've only just received my Jan 06 copy (yesterday) and I get them 'early' as I subscribe, so Dec 05 should still be in the shops....

Are there any shops in the Western Atlantic ?

Sounds possible, we are in New York on Thursday so I'll have a look.
Not that I fancy the Christmas Crowds but it should be well worth it.

It is the December 2005 issue....

On the front there is a red 90 coming down a muddy bank, and it says on the front 'P38A Buying guide'

If Januarys edition is in stock by then that will have a 'Army' Land Rover on the front.

You would be better off with a copy of your own, but let me know if you can't find one

Make sure it has a FULL and COMPLETE service history.

See if any of the following have been done :

Blend Motors
ABS System
Height Sensors
Suspension Compressor / Air Bags

If they haven't, you'll probably have to do them at some point...  :-(

It's in the higher end of the price scale for the vehicle, which can be good if it means that it is a good one.... there are plenty about for a lot less money... but all too often they are complete lemons.

I am assured it has a good service history, mostly from MAin Dealers, I also know it has been garaged most of it's life which has to be a plus.

OK, the suspention compressor has been changed, Why the ABS and heigh sensors? do they cause a lot of problems?

Big question: What is a Blend Motor?

tjsj, PM send with grateful thanks. I walked around Manahatten for nearly two hours and could not find an LRO, just news stands on the corners rather than WHSmiths! Mindd you it was B........y cold!
