Removal of transfer box

I am going to remove the transfer box off a Disco R380 to replace it with a defender one as I am told the gearing is different. I am going to have monster tyres on it. Getting back to the point, to remove the transfer box do I need the gearbox to be in any particular gear or in hi / low ratio or is that not important. Any help would be greatly received.
Thanks

I wish this project would just hurry up and finish!
But I don't think it will if I keep making simple mistakes

As muddyweb says, that isnt important, but remember things like your handbrake linkages, the mechanism for high/low ratio and difflock, speedo cable etc

There are a number of different ratios available in Defender t/fer boxes, but the ratio difference only effects the high range.
