I'd say head gasket gone between a oil gallery and a cylinder, doesnt take alot of oil to make alot of smokeand it doesnt nessacarly have to have blown between the oil and water hence no mayo or water loss, This would be my 1st guess, however is could also over fueling due to some sort of blockage in the air intake, when was the air filter last changed? Do you have a snorkle that someone may have sabotaged by dropping something down?

Air filter is new from Allisport and i do have a snorkel..But i dont think thats the problem...Its never overheated and was running fine up until now..What about the fuel lift pump?? would this also do it???

only if its over pumping white smoke from a deisel if its fuel related is over fueling, If the lift pump was faulty I would expect it to me not getting enough fuel. I'm affraid I dont know the disco diesel engine that well just going off general deisel engine knoledge, is there any kind of air flow or MAS sensor in the intake?

over fuelling a diesel is black smoke & white smoke is water
do you have a K&N filter fitted??

that might not have helped the engine much
take the filler cap off & see if it chuffs from there,if it does headgasket has gone,

have you had the rocker cover off yet??
the 300's have a habit of pulling the back stud out that holds the rockers down so you loose power etc

Had a similar prob myself, turned out had petrol in my diesel. Ok from start up, but after a minute or two, no power, revs all over.

Double check fuel quality.

Lift pump fault usually causes engine to die. Have seen a few faults in the workshop where people have run bio-diesel and its shagged the lift pump. Have you??

Check theres no minute leaks between the tank and the high pressure pump. These will drag air and cause all sorts of running/starting faults. Take off the fuel filter and remove and clean the sealing ring on all sides, thats a fave air leak point. Just check sll the pipes/unions etc.
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

you dont think maybe you have had water in previously which may have jiggered the pump? also sounds like the governors in the pump are playing silly beggers

Is the tickover lumpy when it's on tickover and warm?

If so you may have damaged the springs in the fuel injection pump.

Been there done that.

Grey smoke on a diesel normally means lack of fuel.  White smoke is water, black smoke too much fuel, blue smoke is oil.

If smoke is grey its normally lack of fuel.  Blocked filter, kinked fuel feed pipe, very slight air leak in fuel feed pipes.

Its been a long time since I was a bus mechanic but I am pretty sure when we had some smartass driver put sugar in the fuel tank that produced white smoke too.  I dont suppose some stupid kids done it to you have they ?

Not normally, just have to change the fuel filter after the first 1k miles as it lifts all the crud out the tank, did mine yesterday after i run out of fuel & it had water & VO in the bottom o the filter,i run 25 litres VO to 15 diesel normally but at the mo it 35 diesel & 5 VO,Now on pure white fuel as i run out yesterday trying to be smart

the lever is for priming the fuel system up to the inhjection pump, did u get the nuts & olives u will need to fit it?? should take about 1/2 hour to fit & bleed the system,

thats the only pump on the tdi fuel system, just had a thought,it might be drawing air from the fuel sedimentor located on the inside edge of the O/S chassis rail at the rear wheel

thats the primer, to prime the pump should you run out of fuel it pumps the fuel through to the lifter pump so that the lifter isnt pumping air

Yes, disconnecting the outlet and operating the lever should produce fuel ... However, the pump needs to be 'off cam' for the lever to work - if there's no resistance when you lift the lever, rocking the car (in gear, of course) will turn the engine slightly, thus moving the cam away from the pump and allowing the lever to work fully ...

Just don't forget to take it out of gear again before going for a start ...
