Have you got a vehicle with 9 seats or more?
« on: December 12, 2005, 19:20:50 »
If so did you know you are not allowed in the outside lane of a motorway
(unless told to do so by the police or to pass an oversized vehicle)
This includes all 110 drivers (with 9 seats or more), mini buses and above.
This is (since October) the law.
If you need clarity, contact the Police.
I thought that i'd better warn some of you.
Still cant believe a 110 full of people is'nt a car

Ps. the word adapted does'nt mean after fit.
9 seats and up is the law, regardless of how and when the seats got there.
 :!:

Pss. Ignore the yellow area.
This was stuck on the notice board at work to inform the 7.5 tonnes drivers of the new laws

8 seats in addition to the driver, so doesnt that mean 8 total is ok, but 9 is a problem????????

I'd expect this would come as a bit of a shock to 110 CSW drivers.  I've forwarded it to my friend at Land Rover to see what they think.

I ended up in an arguement with my transport manager over it.
My view is that a 110 is a car so, therfore, follows car restrictions and rules.
was anyone else aware of this rule change?
What would have happened if *jobs worth* copper would have pulled a 110?
You cant plead ignorance against the law.

Good job that mine (when I get it) will be made into a 5-seater.

I could perhaps understand it if it a 'Hire & Reward' situation, ie; a Hotel operator ferrying guests down the motorway to a Pheasent shoot for example, as they're paying for the travel, food & shooting (hence; 'H&R')

My grasp of this is  - more than eight passengers in addition to the driver - 8 + 1 = 9, therefore 9 is OK if MORE is the important word
Still a bummer though if you have a 12 seater !

Thanks for the info there Jake. Being a 109 owner with 12 seats that is definately news to me, I would agree with v8kenny though that a 9 seater is ok but anything above that, like my 109,  would be a problem.

On the A1M near Newcastle where the outside lane splits of to become the A194M,  trucks seem to be allowed to use the lane for access to the junction/road, so same rules I suppose.

I think you will find that the rule will probably only apply to England not scotland... We always get the bum end of the deal....

Blimey being a 110 owner is causing me more stress that I could ever imagine. My defender is red I wonder if there are any restrictions on that.

I spoke to a traffic cop about this today and apparently it's not law yet but is coming in. He hadn't realised Land Rovers could have more than 9 seats so if anyone gets pulled over on the M1 in Notts, sorry.

In addition any new vehicles with more than 9 seats are going to have to have speed limiters fitted to 70 mph.

I think you mis-understood why i quoted you.
It was regarding the law on 110's and the various posts we've shared on the subject.
Nothing sinister.

It appears that the law is on your side. (which is good)

Not a worry, but I don't think mine will see the type of velocity required to travel in Lane 3.
They're not really geared for Lane3 cruising.

Mine has 12 each with a seat belt ! Still I have read around this subject quite a bit. The DVLA are particulary of no help. One guy said "this is the law I cant interpret it for you .....you need to take legal advice" Ok I said I`ll drive to my solicitor and hope I dont get pulled over.

I summary you dont have to pay the conjestion charge when your driving around London looking for Ken Livingstone to annoy him. You must be over 21, have held cat B for more than two years. Not use the landy for hire or reward, if over 70 meet the health standars of a cat D driver. The Land Rover is under 3.5tonnes. Dont drive in lane 3 unless directed to by the police or overtaking a wide load.

evil ducks are exempt from wearing a seat belt.

Happy Driving (on a voluntary basis)

I wouldnt fancy driving a dumper down a motorway doing 25mph!

I knew there were some new laws  about weight limits of vehicles and max speeds which my managers seem to think is the small transit vans posties use is the biggest van that can now do the same speed on roads. anything above that weight is restricted to lorry speeds but I think theyhave got their weights wrong. anyone know of any changes in speeds?
