Wish me luck chaps and chappess' am just off to take Johnty's landy for the MOT! He daren't do it, gets far too anxious about the whole process..... if all goes well I will then be able to go in and see the smug smiles disappear from the face of the post mistress when I ask for our historical class FREE tax disc  :wink:

Unfortunately it doesnt work like that any more. It used to be anything over 25 years old qualified but then labour changed it to anything manufactured before january 1st 1973 (I think!) so its not a case of waiting, unless the conservatives get back in and change it again (which I doubt) Sorry  :cry:

Yep - after getting into power on the slogan of (among other things) 'The Tories are the Partry of Stealth Taxation', Labour promtly froze this Vehicle Excise 'bonus' at their first Budget ... without having the decency to first announce it in any way, shape or form!! :twisted:

IT FAILED!!!!!!O well we can't win them all and it is mainly braking efficiency that it failed on although the brakes felt fine when driving her. That and a wheel bearing and king pin. Can you guess what Johnty will be doing this weekend? I will have to be on hand with lots of cups of tea and encouraging words I think  :) One good thing though, the guy at the test station said that if Johnty wants to check the brakes before rebooking we can phone him and he will let us use the rolling road to test them........pretty decent of him I thought!

If you do that then I think you will need to have it in two wheel drive, I can't remember why, but I remember reading something about it on here, so when I took my Disco in for it's MOT (permanent 4WD) I asked the garage how they were intending to do it, and they knew of the 'problem' and said they would use some sort of deceleratometer or something instead.

Someone on here will know what I'm rambling on about I'm sure  :oops:

They tested the brakes on my Niva with some gadget that sits inside and sees how much the vehicle 'pulls' to one side.

Don't know the technicalities of it though

Such a device was used by one garage to test my last car (a P38 Rangey).

A Disco can be tested on the normal rollers, as the centre Diff is 'open' ...
