Hi Lee,

My 2L Mpi 80% of the time has a idle speed over 1000rpm's  Ive tried giving the outside of the body a good squirting with WD40,  keep meaning to get some carb cleaner and remove the air hose and give it a squirt.

Cant say mine is connected with the brakes tho

Sounds more like the stepper motor is playing up. I've got the same thing on mine and a friend (whose hwavily into V8s) says it's that.
Cheers

Could be stepper motor or road speed sensor.

5 minute job to clean it - which is cost free.
Remove the connector off the back of it, and undo it - it shouldn't be tight.
Clean the end with a cloth and WD40.
I also (carefully) poke a bit of cloth in the hole where it came from to remove any muck from where the end seats.
Installation is the reverse of removal. I tighten it by hand only.

I have to clean mine every 6 months or so.
