« on: December 17, 2005, 14:52:28 »
The previous owner showed me how to start it, but i cant seem to do it, am a bit dense when it comes to engines.  Is there anyone in the South Cumbria area that may be able to help??

Cheers

button on mine is central lower dash, just above trans cover - sort of in line with 3rd gear. so can you turn ignition on at all?

You could always use the starting handle - good for building up the muscles.  Big silver thing in mine (button that is)- none of your modern flimsy c@@p.    can you not remember any of what prev owner said?

depends how original it is, the ignition key might only work glow plugs and you might have a start stop cable (looks like a choke cable and leads to the diesel pump) this will need pulling to start push to stop.
for the starter button

if altanator (like std car) === follow cable from positive on batt and should lead to a switch on bulkhead this is starter switch (push button from other side)

if dynamo (just looks like a steel round tube) follow negative wire to switch

remeber if dynamo, will be postive earth !!!! so every thing is back to front ..... so be very carefull with electrics as body is live source not the battery

Is there a button on the floor, the older versions have a foot button down there with a direct link to the starter

Earlier Series motors also had the dim / dipped switch on the floor too,  might not help you start the engine, but it's fun to play with.

Ok, thanks to those who tried to lend a hand with trying to tell me how to do it, but the thing is, the previous owner has tried to explain it to me over the phone in idiot terms and i still cant do it, now he cant travel 330 miles just to help, what i need is someone relatively local to actually come down and show me, cos i dont know engines.

Cheers

Calm down calm down...

Have you used the pre heater? In cold weather expect on a series diesel to have to heat glow plugs for around 30 seconds so the orange light goes out BEFORE trying to start it.

Thats your first hurdle.

Also check the stop lever is pushed back into place (assuming it has a stop lever!)

If you have tried a live connection to the glow plugs, perhaps all of them are not working

How did you get the feed to the glow plugs?
