I don't claim to kno anything about them, but I've just done a quick google that has suggested the following:

Sprinter 216CDI 156bhp 5 cylinder
Sprinter 316CDI 156bhp 5 cylinder
Sprinter 416CDI  156bhp 5 cylinder
Sprinter 616CDI 156bhp 5 cylinder

So for a quick quess, I'd say it's out of a Sprinter and is 156bhp

any engine numbers to go by?

then u can find out what the engine is and find out its quality from that.

Does it look anything like this :

If so, then it's the one from the 190D and some of the early g-wagens.

I should probably get round to selling this one actually !

I might be way of course, but check the rotation direction. I once heard a rumour that merc engines ran the other way to most euro and jap angines. Like I said, may be bullsh*@   but Itd be a [!Expletive Deleted!] to have lots of reverse gears...........
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

That is I am certain a Mercedes OM617 (the number is from memory however) which is the 5 cylinder 2998cc unit from the 80's and earlier. It had many applications and I have a SWB 1988 G Wagon with it in. Quite and completely gutless but will go for ever. In the G application I think it is rated at around 82 bhp and 120 or so ft pounds torque. It was turboed for some vehicles but that version has uprated internals. There is a G club website somewhere which may help if you can find it - I have lost my bookmark.
While the build quality and strength never mind the cross axle diff locks of the G Wagen puts it in a different league to my 300 series Discovery the engine apart from its total reliabilty is rather a let down.

Cheers,
JB

Quite a lot of our 'Blue Light' Ambulances are Mercedes, so I'll have a browse the next chance I get.

Plus, we've got the fleet repair workshops in our grounds.

Pity you don't want ainformation about the Gardner 6LW (or is it a 6LX) as the father-in-law was Assistant Engineering Manager (& still has contacts) for Arriva buses around here.
