Handbrake
« on: December 29, 2005, 17:30:00 »
Odd one this, my lads '90 just would not move this morning after being stood for 4 days over Xmas.

When he tried to put the handbrake down, as he released it, it promptly clicked back on all by itself!!!! Looking under it while he tried gently to move forward, I noticed that the rear prop wasnt moving but the front one did and decided that the handbrake was probably frozen.

Has anyone else had this?? We finally got it moving, stripped it down and it seems the plungers and the rollers were well gunged up and I can only assume this was part, if not all, of the problem...
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

I've had that previously and also today although it cracked off when I put it in gear. I got some crud in it on Teusday and I think that was the culprit. I can't make up my mind if I'll take the drum off or not - mighty cold in the garage right now.

Yep... seen that plenty of times.

You need to give the handbrake a good service once in a while.
It is also quite possible that the mechanisms had frozen which would contribute

good news it aint such an odd problem after all :)

There wasnt too much crud in the drum, and the cable assy seemed ot be fine, but it was more round the plunger, roller area, although there was plenty of grease around, I think it was in the wrong place....

aahh well, onwards to the next Land Rover problem ;)
